Question is in the title, but I'll reiterate "Between Rigo/Loma who has the technical (skill) advantage and why?". Who do y'all have as the most skilled boxer, before they meet in the ring, and why have you come to this assessment? Serious replies only please. @Rumsfeld @Nonito Smoak @DoubleJab666 Please no trolling BS
To me I think Lomachenko is more well rounded which is why I think he has the technical advantage. He can box circles or he can pressure you, switching styles smoothly. He knows how to change the pace of a fight, fast or slow. Rigondeaux is great at what he does best but he's not as versatile. It's somewhat similar to Ward and Kovalev where Kovalev was great at what he was comfortable doing. But Ward had better versatility and intangibles which was why he was able to beat Kovalev.
I think Rigo will beat Loma if the Loma we've seen so far shows up. Too aggressive for his own good, ala Manny vs JMM... If Loma switches to the back-foot and jabs all night it'll be very close.
I think that the key to this fight will be the use of the Jab, to create spacing, control distance and effectively control the ring and dictate timing. I think Loma has MORE skills, as in more variety of skillset. However, I think Rigo is MORE skilled, as in the skills they both share--which are crucial to winning a boxing match, I believe Rigo is better at. I believe Rigo is the better defender, while Loma has more power and size. Hopefully this will be one of the better fights we've ever seen, as were seeing two of the best from the same lineage (Soviet/Cuban ams) to ever do it.
The Loma that fought aggressively in his last fight had no respect for Marriaga and wanted to put on a show, which was why he got tagged a bit. Nothing wrong with that. Lomachenko will be smart enough to know when to box more intelligently, especially against a guy like Rigondeaux.
I give Rigondeaux the advantage in his counter punching ability and his ability to slow the pace. They're both equal in terms of boxing IQ, footwork and even defense. I just think that Loma has more variety in his game.
I can't see Rigo throwing as he only throws if he knows he can land, could be an absolute stinkfest from Rigo and I say this as a fan
Lomachenko is much more well rounded. I love both but even if they were the same size I'd pick Vasyl. He's maybe the best I've ever seen.
Without hesitation, YES, it will be shocking to most people how easily Loma tools this grumpy munchkin. CST80, 38 minutes ago
One key aspect is who can adapt the most to their opponent and that is hands down Rigo. Rigo is one of those boxers who can turn your best assets into your weakness. He us just masterful at figuring opponents.
Rigo likes to box at a measure pace, he waits his opponents to commit and counter, great snap on the punches. Normally he is kryptonite for aggressive fighters. But Loma is not face first fighter, the footwork and pivot are amazing, plus he doesn't try to punch a hole into you, just touch and grab whatever presented. If they are the same size it will be more of a battle, similar to Hopkins calzaghe. But this time the more active, bigger and in prime Loma will out manoeuvre and out punch the smaller man.
