Louis is too refined and skilled to lose to Wilder. Wilder may have more raw power but Louis is a better two handed puncher. Louis will control him with a jab and can hurt him either with his left hook or straight right hand. Wilder is a one trick pony. If he lands his right, he can knock Joe down and badly hurt him. But Louis at his peak (around the second Budy Baer fight) is too refined to lose to him. Louis tko 5

The only thread with a poll (which is closed) is from 2017. The one I made specified a 1951 Louis. Can we please stop the repetitive posts complaining about repetitive threads? It’s too repetitive, I repeat, too repetitive.
Joe Louis imo. It's possible he'd get caught with a hard shot and shook early on, but survives and stops Deontay inside 4 rounds.
Agreed. I don’t see this fight going longer than 4 rounds. Either Wilder lands a laser, or Louis crumbles him. Either would have to happen early, because Wilder doesn’t have great mobility, and Louis wouldn’t stay at the end of Wilders range. Louis was too quick, too sharp, too dynamic for Wilder to have more than a long shot punchers chance.
I've been highly ambivalent about a lot of the hypothetical match-ups proposed here lately, but this is one where I'm highly confident (I don't say that too often) and would bet as much disposable income as I could get my hands on. Louis butchers him.
I will pick louis under the pretext he is greater in history but i would not put a single euro on this
Louis big. But Wilder has of course a punchers chance. A good counter puncher beat Wilder easily. He telegraphed every hard punch he throws. Louis is a great counter puncher. Louis would either wait for him to over commit to one of his roundhouse right hands, parry the shot nail him when he's off balance and completely out of position with a left hook. Or simply time his pattern, see his exaggerated movement when he attempts to load up his right hand, follow Wilders jab with a cross, anticipating what Wilder ALWAYS does beat him to the punch with a right hand of his own. Louis could also out jab Wilder (when he decides to use it) with a counter jab. Countering is about skill timing- anticipation, not height or weight. Louis's was a master of this. Louis by Ko.
