I do not think a single past or present fighter at 135 lbs could beat the Hands Of Stones, Roberto Duran. The only one to defeat him was Esteban De Jesus, on Nov 17 1972, in a non title ten rounder, Duran was decked in round 1, but lost by unanimous decision. On March 11 1974, he again was decked in round 1, but Stopped Esteban De Jesus in round 11, to retain his WBA World Lightweight Title. They met for the final time in Jan 1978, to unify the WBA and WBC World Lightweight Title, Duran stopped Esteban in round 12 of a masterful performance by Duran. Duran was champion from 1972-1979, with 12 title defenses. He was trained by Ray Arcel and Freddie Brown. Julio Caesar Chavez was WBC Junior Lightweight Champion and won the WBA Lightweight Championship with his stoppage of Edwin Rosario. Chavez loves to attack to the body with that savage left hook, as he applies constant pressure to an opponent. Joe Frazier once remarked that Duran had the eyes of convicted killer Charles Manson, when he fought, and it scared him. Roberto did have that mean streak in him in his battles. He had skills, he was a good counter puncher, and had a deadly right hand. I see Chavez showing respect early in the fight, but Roberto with a very lethal punch at Julio's heart begins to slow up Chavez and his effective counters begins to soften him up for the paralyzing Duran right. In round 10, Roberto connects with a right to Julio's jaw as he is attempting to fire his right hand, Chavez staggers backward, Duran steps in with a combo, Julio hits the canvas, tries to rise, then falls to his side for the full count. Roberto Duran was admired by many fighters especially Carlos Monzon, who used to converse with Duran by telephone after Roberto's fights.

Anything can happen, Duran was meaner and had that mental toughness, also skill . But I respect your opinion.

I'll say Duran on points but Chavez drops him late but fails to keep him down. Great matchup Richard!

Chavez throws straighter, more concise, more accurate and faster punches. Duran would often throw wide, unpredictable punches that could even if partially blocked could still do damage but more importantly would knock you off your spot so you couldn't counter effectively and he could control distance

    At 135.
Duran had speed and aggression. Sometimes he'd throw looping and wide punches though. I can see Chavez having success with his straight right. Duran's tenacity wouldn't bother Chavez. Prime Chavez was P4P one of the strongest boxers in the ring ever. Tougher than Duran even. Chavez can fight dirty and his cranium is legendary. The in-fighting in this fight would be brutal. Duran's best chance is to catch Chavez from the outside with his speed advantage. I just don't see anyone hurting Chavez at 135. He is very underrated because of his later diva career.
    At 135

Personally, I don't see any lightweight in history beating prime and focused
Duran at that weight. But Chavez would give Duran one heck of a fight.
Duran by close but unanimous dec.
