Is it too early to compare Lomachenko to all time greats?

    I don't need them explaining thanks but if Lomachenko moved up to beat Crawford that would trump any Pacman win by a country mile! Manny defeating Oscar wasn't all that great when you look at the details of the bout.

    Lomachenko will go Down as a Great Fighter but never as a All Time Great.

    His Pro career was too short and he never beat THAT Great Fighter who really stood out.

    Show me one Name in his career who has the potential to be a ATG?
    Answer is nobody except for Lopez in 15+ years maybe.

    A lot of course depends on if he can gain revenge on Lopez and what Lopez goes on to do.

    It is always much harder to rate current fighters. Hindsight makes things a little easier.

    I put him at #90 in my top 100 of the Queensberry rules era last year, it will be interesting if he can turn this round. I admit I am a sucker for a good redemption story.

    A number of fighters in history had very good runs, Kid lavenge comes to mind, but their careers don't come out to all time greats. 10-2 isn't getting you very far.

    If he retires, here's his meaingful scalps with ranking by TBRB:

    Roman Martinez (6)
    Jason Sosa (7)
    Gil Rigondeaux (Ch. - at 122lbs, fights Loma at 130lbs)
    Jorge Linares (2)
    Jose Pedraza (3)
    Anthony Crolla (2)
    Luke Campbell (7)

    Note that Russel wasn't ranked but was very good and ranked shortly thereafter.

    So it's not too bad, and if you chuck in Walters and Russel, which is reasonable, it's a fine number, really good. Biggest risks appear to be Linars, Pedraza, Salido and Lopez so that's 2-2 nut not abnormal. No number ones or champions (in their own divisions thought) which is troubling - just strapholders. I'd say impressive but certainly not overwhelming.

    It is a fight that should have happened at 130 but didn't. There is still good time for this bout to happen at 130 without it being over-aged.
