This has been rehashed ad nauseum.

Scored on the 10 point must system, it was a close fight. Pea won his rounds more emphatically but not 10-8 emphatically. So, Pea's great rounds counted as much as Chavez's very close rounds. I had Pea winning but not by much.

Regardless, for those that feel a prime JCC was at age 31, 87 fights in at 142.... well, I have an arena in San Antonio to sell you.

No it wasn't, Whitaker won 8-4/9-3 clearly.

Lol what? Whitaker won 8 rounds minimum. What rounds exactly did you give to Chavez?

I had it 7-5... 115-113. We have a round different. You can die on that hill if you choose to. I've discussed that fight enough in my days.. and I was actually at the damn thing.

I had it 117-111. Nothing close about that.

Loma schools and brutally KOs Qawi in 3.

On a serious note, Loma is unlikely to beat Duran or Chavez at their best. I am going to say it... Duran and Chavez are actually better technically than Loma as well.

That's true and made alot of people resent him. He sort of a poor sport near the end perhaps all he accomplished before that got sullied somewhat.

That only proved that Whitaker was a better Welterweight than Chavez. The Duvas played that one well.
At 135 its different in my opinion. Not saying Pea couldnt win but it would be interesting.

Yea it wasn't a domination but Whitaker did win it. Chavez probably won some rounds on aggression. Pea didn't catch his groove until he stopped running and started peppering Julio in the mid rounds.

Duva made sure to keep Pea away from JCC until JCC was past his best and at 5 lbs heavier than his best weight.

Whitaker got hosed by the WBC against Ramirez and Chavez. Whitaker wasnt exactly a natural 147 either. If Whitaker had gotten the decision he deserved against Ramirez there is a good chance he and Chavez would have fought in 1988.Chavez fought Ramirez in a WBA/WBC unification. Whitaker should have been the WBC champion not Ramirez. Whitaker was relegated to going after the IBF title. By that time JCC was at 140 lbs. I think at 140 Whitaker outboxes Chavez. At 135 Chavez wins because he was absolute peak and Whitaker was still a bit green when Chavez was there.

One thing I always noticed about Chavez was him throwing the straight right hand almost a foot to the left of the opponents head. He would do this in the first 2-3 rounds and sometimes sporadically throughout the fight. Does anyone know why he did this?
