Well.... at least Yoka got the stoppage, and his stamina was vastly improved from the Hammer fight. But still... thoroughly unimpressed. Goddamn, did they just wake Duhaupas out of a stupor, after a night of partying, throw shorts on him, and toss him in the ring?

He took a beating for most of 12 rounds - eye clearly shot. Yet this is what you take away.

Yoka seemed very happy to have stopped a D class fringe man in the 12th.

A clean shot right on an injured eye can be enough to make anyone quit. Can't slip when you can't see...or seeing double.

Djeko was stopped before in a tournament whose fights don't show on boxrec

Yes, at Bigger is Better XVI by Maslobojev. I mentioned that in the preview thread: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/tony-victor-james-yoka-vs-joel-tambwe-djeko.663909/

His chin has been reliably serviceable in the 7½ years since, though. Stopping him is a meaningful result - loathe though I am to admit it, being a major Yoka skeptic.

Yoka receives gifts against my boys Joyce and Hrgovic in the Olympics, enlists the services of Virgil Hunter of all people to be his head trainer, and he's bored me to sleep with his last two performances. I love the French but I'm going to contact the French embassy and ask them to tell Manny Macron to revoke his French citizenship if he keeps this up.

I don't think Djeko was that hurt in the 12th round he probably could have finished the round. The damage from the eye and getting pummeled at ropes made him nervous and in the heat of the moment he quit.

For all the criticism Yoka gets, his resume after 10 fights is impressive: Rice, Allen, Dimitrenko, Wallisch, Duhaupas, Hammer and now Djeko. Some of them weren't in peak condition, but still good wins. Top Rank should make Yoka vs Ajagba next. Perfect prospect crossroads fight. :chuck:

Correction: that was meant to be XXVI.

My days of tracelessly fixing bloops like that are gone. :ohno

Shame he never turned actual pro. For a guy with such prolific renaissance man combat sports experience (very good record in kickboxing, and so-so in both MMA and semi-pro boxing) it'd have been interesting to see what he brought.

Always tragic IMO when a guy makes very nearly a whole career (at least officially, in Djeko's case) with that flawless void in the "# of times stopped" column only for it to be ruined late hours for a dumb reason (injury, quick ref stoppage, or just hanging around for slightly too long and being done in by a guy that maybe isn't a feather-fist but probably wouldn't have completed the job if the iron-chinned warrior in question was closer to prime - ie Juan "Fénix" Ruiz, against Tögstsogt "King Tug" Nyambayar.
