Afterwards he went on a good run until meeting Kid McCoy.

He went 20 rounds with Joe Walcott twice even after that, and fought Tommy West to a draw, and he wasn't looking after himself or training properly, from what I've read, from around the time he was in England.

From the 60s to now I don't see too much change. From before that quite a bit. Most of the guys from Dempsey's era and earlier look awful, wailing away with slow windmill punches then falling into clinches where they took turns exchanging uppercuts and bodyshots till the ref broke them up, or laughably attempting to jab like a fencer at range with their chins in the air. Many of the HWs in Louis's day also looked terrible, like the ridiculous Tony Galento or windmill/backhand punching Max Baer. There were a few crude fighters in later generations, but by and large they began to make up a smaller percentage of top fighters.

Could old lean-back Mayweather compete with a modern boxer, or would he be too primitive?

this is the foolishness I am talking about . They didnt fall into the clinch , modern guys fell into the clinch in fact the guys back then were VERY VERY GOOD at getting POSITIONING in the clinch. As in an optimal position for them and their opponent a bad position.

Lmao I teach 16 year olds who have a better understanding of boxing then you. You should see a psychologist about your narcissism. In all seriousness. I find your posts narcissistic and completely irrelevant. Don’t flatter yourself.

    You're a charity case, yes.

You live in a distorted reality, where you actually seem to believe your very basic knowledge of boxing is something special. Been there, done it. It's nothing. Please stop taking yourself so seriously. Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough ? It's boring citing your posts again to show where you completely discredit yourself. It's been done already, several times. So let's not go there again. Nice to see you here though.

Notice the modernistas stopped using the term “herky jerky” to criticize old fighters since Fury’s performance in Düsseldorf :D

This, lighters weights such as middle weight and below looked decent in the 40s such as George Benton who possed the modern day Philly Shell style. But heavyweights that weighed 175lb or over before the 40s looked incredibly rudimentary. The fundamentals were there but most heavyweights were crude except a select few. You just didn't see much complex defensive dynamics with the 175+ men back in the dempsey days except dempsey himself and even then he was pretty unrefined. You teleport somebody mediocre like Joseph Parker in the early 1900s and he would clean house due to his clear size advantage and he more refined techniques. Ezzard Charles looks ok on tape but again, he's from the 40s. At that point in time you saw the old school stance really shift into typical modern day guards. Probably due to a shift in glove material, rules and an overall evolution of the sport.

Benton's prime was in the 1960's and saying Ezzard Charles looks ok on film is a huge understatement imo.

It is an understatement tbh he looked good. It's just that his opponents didn't and my mistake he's from the 50s but he got trained before then in the late 40s
