Chavez vs Hagler P4P

While close I voted for Chavez thought that would be majority of peoples opinion turns out the opposite.

 

I feel he has more depth to his resume. Also one of the greats in multiple weight classes.

 

I picked Chavez, I just think he proved his worth over a wider range of opposition and of course over more weigh classes. Not saying multi-weight champs should automatically be considered greater but Chavez fought a huge variety of different styles and won. I also feel at SFW he was as dominant a champ as Hagler but then also proved his worth at two more classes. He perhaps had more longevity, although it can be argued Hagler was uncrowned champ for a few years before his first shot. I think Hagler has the better individual wins but at his peak Chavez didn't seem to have the mental slips Hagler sometimes had, for example vs Antuofermo, Duran and Leonard. This is just my flash response, interested to see what others think. I also feel the styles of fighters who gave Chavez problems, Whitaker and Taylor, would have caused Hagler issues.

 

Hagler for mine but not a lot in it at all.

Chavez is one of the best fighters I’ve seen on film as is Hagler.

Probably that Hagler had a long unified reign over one of the traditional glamour divisions seals it for me. Still there’s only a bees’s appendage splitting them either way.

Hagler is at #34 and JCC at #35. That reflects my own view, not that Hagler is higher, but that they're so close that it can be credibly argued either way.

 

If we're talking pound for pound in the traditional sense, then it's Hagler. At his best he was capable of slipping into a gear which Chavez didn't quite possess, in my opinion.

If we're talking accomplishments and record, it's Chavez.

 

I don't get why Chavez isn't getting the votes. He beat better fighters over multiple weights and actually made it to pfp 1 (I dont think Hagler did in KO Magazine, not sure).

A better comparison would be between Chavez & Joe Frazier

Hagler won the p4p award 4X throughout the 1980s and is light years ahead of Chavez in every way, and that includes in fighting

It is a more fair comparison to compare him with another famed infighter, Joe Frazier.

Frazier was tougher no doubt but Chavez had better artillery.

my best memories were the rosario matchup and his rematch with Randall who I felt would have won the rematch if not for the accidental butt. randal just too much fighter for him. As a result of that fight, Julio went down hill soon after.

Chavez got pfp 1 3x in The Ring and got number 2 twice, starting in their first year doing pfp.

 

Sure, Chavez was a champ in multiple divisions but I believe Hagler's wins are of a higher quality. I mean the guy beat prime Tommy Hearns (who's probably top 2 P4Per at the time and did become champ at MW & LHW), Duran (gets a title in MW eventually), lineal champ Minter, slew of middleweight contenders, and arguably beat SRL (prob top 3 P4Per at the time). So Hagler beats 2, arguably 3 HOFers (which are commonly seen as ATGs). JCC's opponents that made it to the HOF include Edwin Rosario and Hector Camacho, but are they ATGs? What do you guys think?
