whitaker by wide decision 118 - 109. Point deduction against whitaker for hitting cotto whilst having him in a headlock. Ala Nelson style. :)

Cotto at 147 is a better fighter than Chavez was at 147 and Vasquez isn't in the same league as cotto ..... Chavez was much smaller than Cotto just because Pea was able to beat Chavez doesn't equate to Pea being able to deal with Cotto who is much stronger ... Chavez started his career at 126 or 130 lbs Cotto was a huge 140 to start his career

Better than Chavez? Based on what? Defeating Judah? He may have been stronger but he was not the better fighter.

Vazquez was 53-1 coming into that fight IMO had an impressive resume, defeating the likes of Wright, Castillejo etc.

Chavez was better at 147 than Cotto until proven otherwise...I have no doubt in my mind Chavez would have stopped Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal, and Zab Judah.

One day though, I definitely believe Cotto will be looked at as the better fighter at 147.

Cotto's much more versatile than Chavez. He stands off better at long range, and he's got a much better jab. Cotto may well not be as proven as Chavez, but he's a much more complete fighter when balancing everything out in all areas. Chavez always came forward patiently breaking down his opponent, Cotto's very effective at that as well. But Cotto's so much better behind the jab and showing a wider variety of punches.

The bottom line is, Cotto has a bit more to his game than being a brilliant pressure fighter.

Whitaker still handles him fairly easily, 116-112.

I say Swea by UD in a competitive fight.....

The biased on these boards are incredible, Cotto is excellent against slick movers he understands their mentality and times them extremely well. Pea was a special fighter so he would rarely be trapped by Cotto but Cotto will have his moments.
