They met in March when Roberge was the unbeaten favorite in his sophomore pro bout. Charbonneau, an MMA crossover, brought in a 3-1 record before springing the mild upset via split decision on the Rivas vs. Sylvera Louis undercard.

Both are old fellas (Charbonneau is 38 and Roberge already 40), so don't expect the winner here to move onto any big things afterward. Maybe a rubber match, and then each get fed to a young local prospect, and call it a career.

    Round 1

Charbonneau is putting up a high guard and collecting jabs and straight flurries up top as though on flypaper. Roberge much busier, although nothing is really getting through. Charbonneau with a counter uppercut spreading Roberge's arms wide like windshield-wipers. Moments later a counter right down the pipe and Roberge is down. He is up, grinning in embarrassment, but hurt more than he's letting on as he immediately moves in to clinch. Lumbering forward and throwing heavy 1-2s, Charbonneau has Roberge on the defensive.

    10-8 Charbonneau

They were never supposed to be in the co-feature slot tbf. (see post #4)

Still weird that GYM opted to go with this, instead of switching the order to have Osias vs. Murrieta before the main event, though. :nusenuse:

For an "MMA guy", Charbonneau's stand up striking and defense isn't all that horrible.

When having success, Roberge is having it solely because of work rate (sort of like Thad Ridsdill-Buntsma earlier versus Menoche) and not really because he's doing any prettier work.

    Round 2

Just a lot of Roberge knocking on the front door, and Charbonneau staying frozen with his guard up. Precious few - if any - clean shots.

    10-9 Roberge, close

    19-18 Charbonneau

    Round 3

Charbonneau is clamping both palms over his orbital bones, showing the rumps of his mitts to Roberge and lining his elbows up parallel to cage his stomach. Roberge is slide-stepping and floating like a butterfly, throwing high teardrop right hands at the head and quick shoeshines into the chest. All that's coming in return from Charbonneau is some jabs thrown in multiples, but few and far between, scoring a few but not enough. Once in a blue moon Charbonneau finishing with an uppercut behind the jabs, but again, too sporadic.

    10-9 Roberge, close

    28-28

    Round 4

Charbonneau is throwing very slow and telegraphed uppercuts to body and head but still connecting with them, at least partially, as Roberge is diving in recklessly opening up a wide open lane with both hands looping up at Charbonneau's head. 1-2's between the gloves by Charbonneau. Flurries hurtling in by Roberge. Left hook, right cross by Charbonneau, good combo, square on the jaw as Roberge was attempting to grind his way inside and setting himself to punch (but taking entirely too long in transition between defense and offense).

    10-9 Charbonneau

    38-37 Charbonneau

Almost every single knockdown on this card has been some nickel and dime nonsense. Seeing the highlight of Charbonneau's in the first here, you can almost hear the Benny Hill theme playing...

Imagine that'll all change once Kaboom gets in. :deal:

Impassioned - and loquacious - speech from Roberge.

Canadians didn't utter a peep during those bells; you'd have been able to hear a pin drop. Why can't American fans be that classy in those moments? :shakehead:
