I was saying it in jest, i do honestly think Rios would eventually wear him down, i dont doubt he would get caught with some nasty punches, at the moment Rios is proven and is one relentless ****er. Berto was supposed to beat Ortiz, look what happened there, it may turn out that Rios fighting Abril will give him good experience for this fight. Broner would be taken to deep water for sure in that fight, it would be sink or swim, i lean towards Rios because of superior experience and shear size.:good
Disagree, he adjusted to take the play away from Rees from the 3rd round onwards. Broner was superb once he changed gameplan and went on the offensive.
I've always liked Brandon, but I think Broner would probably beat him, I remember the Acosta fight and how badly he was beating Rios in the first half of the fight. Broner has far more pop than Acosta and I think he could possibly stop Rios, but it'll be hell doing it.
I actually favored Acosta going into that fight, and I think he was up on points before the stoppage. But Acosta was a great ring general with lots of movement, not the blueprint Broner would follow. IMO Broner needs to let his hands go on the outside right away. Rees showed if you stay low, Broner becomes hesitant. He didn't start throwing the right hand until the 3rd round, he needs to establish it straight away. It's where he's most powerful and least susceptible to getting hit. Otherwise he'll have a tough time with Rios on the inside. Broner is an awesome body puncher but Rios can take a lot of punishment and has more experience on the inside. The way he was positioning himself against Alvarado took craft. The fight likely ends up on the inside, and becomes a war of attrition, in which I'd favor Rios. So again, the question becomes how often Broner can find him at range. I'd bet he could land some mean uppercuts as Rios ducks while leaning on the front foot.
Rios has a legitimate chance,if broner ego gets in the way & makes the mistake to stand toe2toe or walk him down he's going to have a long day.Rios would laugh at broners clown acts get under his skin possibly tko him this hype train getting ridiculous & will crash soon.Rios used to getting hit & has granite chin,broner though?All I can tell you is if rios hurts broner it's lights out.Don't think brush boi got the cajones though he calls midget gamboa then backs out & accuses him of peds.Rios ain't no gamboa he'll smack you.
You cant compare abrils style and broners just because of the shoulder, they have completely different styles....just like you cant compare broner and mayweather
Im saying it was an ideal warm up when considering the competency that both fighters show when using it, that kind of competency right at the top isnt too common, it was after all a loose comparison. The Mayweather and Broner comparisons are obvious and justified, the admiration Broner shows towards his hero is no secret, be it out of the ring or within it.
How do you see Khabib Allakhverdiev vs Broner, and the top 140 lbers? I can see him beating Broner at 140.
The glaring problem, was that Alvarado kept eating left hooks, mainly due to him not holding his right hand against his chin. It was a lazy attempt at a philly shell, and while he was able to use that as a platform for his offense on the inside at times, he wasn't proficient enough with it to avoid the retaliatory punches Rios threw. The shell defense has to be intelligently used in conjunction with clinching, forearms and the occasional elbow. Hopefully Alvarado works on it more before the rematch, but imo, he should just stick to working off the jab. It's where he had his most success during the fight.
Agreed, the lack of right hand protection hurt him. And agreed, his jab is his best weapon. Alvarado can box well and should only seek to do damage on the inside in spurts; otherwise Rios starts to out-position him and get off better. Never seen him! I like that name though. What's his best performance so far?
It's not about the styles so to speak, because honestly, Broner is a lot more physically talented than Abril. But it's about the defensive posture. It's something that the offensive fighter (Rios), has to figure out how to combat. Now add to that, Broner is faster, may hit harder at 140 (?) and has a good chin. With that, you have the recipe to make Rios look clownish.
