I was 14 at the time, and I remember for weeks before the fight telling all the kids (& teachers!) at school to watch this fight. I actually picked Benn to win it late, but nobody could have predicted what a war it turned out to be!

I recorded it live from ITV and have watched it several times since, and as thrilling as it is, it just isn't the same as it was then. Maybe it's knowing of the horrible outcome, I don't know. But that Saturday night 15 years ago, for the 30 minutes or so the fight lasted, I don't think my heart as beat so fast since!

will never forget the McClellan was a MASSIVE betting favourite. Some predicted it wouldn't go 1 round, some thought no further than 6.

The atmosphere was 2nd to none. Benn spent 3 days afterwards pissing blood.

a modern day classic, Benn simply would not be denied.

G-Man was a bully anyway, a guy who was boiling down from Cruiser.

And they say 24 hour weigh ins make things safer. back in the old days he'd be a Heavy.

Grossly overrated is G-Man; still, tough as **** and sad to see him as he is now, despite what a twat he was.

Does anybody remember any trouble at ringside that night - read thatsome of Benn's minders (Carlton Leach and Tony Tucker) were fighting with other members of security.

didn't watch i live as was only 5 years old. One of my earliest boxing memories however is my Dad showing me the fight when i was just starting to get into boxing. Brilliant action which will always be shadowed by the outcome of G-man's health. I think this fight is a must-watch for any new boxing fan, so they can truly understand the sport.

Dog fighting is sick. He'd breed pitbulls and watch with glee as they ripped apart smaller defenceless dogs.

Supposedly. Either way I have no respect for anyone who cuts weight from Cruiser to Super Middle. Reckless.

    He's also massively overrated.

there was a story of him buy a smaller dog and take it to his basement and taping its mouth shut, and then let his pit bull kill it.

When someone asked him why he didn't let the other dog fight back, he is meant to have replied, "I wanted to see how long Duece took to kill the dog"

i was 11 at the time of this fight. i remember a mate of mine was staying over at mine, and i did the honourable thing and palmed him off to my younger brother upstairs on the sega mega drive while i watched the fight downstairs with my mam & dad.

obviously a tragic ending but without a doubt THE best fight i've ever seen....this was where it all started for me with boxing

I remember this amazing fight, 10 years old taping it on my vcr, but missed the end due to tape running out and having to record over Rocky II to get last round!!

Anybody know where you can get this, or is it not available due to GM's outcome?

This was a great night, I remember watching this in amazement after Benn got put down and got up. They billed the G Man as a mini Tyson...:yep

But most of all, what about that interview with Gary Newbon at the end...excellent...say it as it is Nigel...:fire

Is that the one where he told Newbon to shut up and then said listen to me "they only brought him over here to bash me up"?

I was 11 at the time and a big fan of Nigel Benn, that fight is still the most exciting 30 minutes of sport i have seen.
