160 pounds is a strong division

once AA moves up and PW moves down..then the HW would be more interesting than the 160 division

Middle weight is a relatively weak weight division.
AA and Pavlik are the top dogs,Sturm doesnt want to face any serious threat,and all other middle weights dont play in their dimension.

Golovkin and Pirog are not ready yet to take on some of the top 10 ranked rivals.
Both Pirog and Golovkin are probably the biggest bet to pose a threat to AA or Pavlik.However,they are still too green to duke it out with the two undisputed top dogs at middle weight.

 

It doesn't matter how many times you say its strong, or many times you try to convince people John Duddy or Sergio Mora are good opponents...it won't happen. We can see with our own eyes they are not.

Pavlik, Abraham and to a lesser extent Sturm are top fighters. Mundine was okay, but his performances recently have been a big let down and he seems to have lost his way since the eye injury.

Williams has never fought a serious opponent at this weight. Wright hasn't even fought for what seems like a long time now, there are no guarantees he'll live up to his past standards.

It's a poor division with only one fight that stands out; one that you aren't keen to see. Why is that?

 

Did you know that every time Sylvester won a round on a judge's card none of the other judges had him win that round? There were, I believe, 5 rounds when at least 1 judge gave the round to Sylvester.

That fight was a lot closer than people think. It wasn't a "home town" decision but Sylvester certainly made a good argument.

 

No its not. I know its the only division you seem to follow, but its really not that good. No depth whatsoever.

Pavlik is not an elite fighter, Abraham I feel is strong and powerful, yet very beatable. Overrated. Who else is there? Williams, yet another overhyped fighter. Got schooled down at 147. Wright is past it.

4 good fighters granted, but the contenders are poor, no real prospects. Its mediocre.

 

You are right that middle weight is not that good,but you are far too harsh and one-sided,too.
Pavlik is an elite fighter,and so is AA.And yes,there are real prospects: Golovkin, an olmypian silver medalist who knocked out Bute at the amateurs,now fights at middle weight in the paid ranks,and Pirog who has been incredibly toughly matched up to now.He is a powerful fighter with pop in his fists who will soon make some noise at middle weight.

 

I just like to see build up to big fights so become big events not something that only hard core fans watch, there really is no rush Pavlik vs Abraham let simmer on pot for a little while:yep and Pavlik become a big draw and Abraham become more well known in USA.
Let Pavlik fight Sergio Mora in Ohio, Mora has big following from TV show so the fight will have good ratings. :good
Let Pavlik fight John Duddy in the Garden with Abraham fighting Giovanni Lorenzo on the undercard that will draw big.:good
Let Pavlik fight Sturm in Atlantic City or Germany so that Pavlik vs Abraham do even better in and Germany and Pavlik will known there:good

 

My copy of that plays a few rounds then craps out. He seemed to have some speed, but no power from what little I saw. That about the way the rest of the fight looked? I don't see him having the fire power to deter a Pavlik or Abraham. Again, that was from about 2 or 3 rounds of watching.

 

Pretty much. His recent performances have all been this lacklustre, and he's been dropped too. He seems to have lost something since his eye injury. When he was fighting Kessler he looked a lot better. He took more punishment than he now seems capable of, plus he looked very athletic and quick with the sharpness that he has now lost. On that form he would certainly be capable of boxing the head off King Arthur. I don't know about Pavlik, that was always a bad matchup for him.

As it stands he has no chance against either and would be better matched with Sturm.

The only thing that gets me excited in this division outside Pavlik/Abraham is young Golovkin who is making some waves.

 

Interesting matups can be made there, but it look slike a weak division.

Winky is semi-retired (and everyone hated him when he was young anyway).

AA is leaving.

Williams isn't a middleweight.

Pav is all thats left.

 

I completely disagree. Middleweight is one of the weakest divisions right now. It's about on par with the heavyweights - a few really good (but not great) fighters at the top, followed by about 30 very mediocre fighters who are all relatively interchangeable.

Hell no this division has taken a dive since the departure of Taylor and Miranda --

Sturm doesn't want to fight any of the top guys ... Winky's getting up there in age and is losing his marketability ... Lorenzo got beat by Marquez ... Rubio showed what he was made of against Pavlik ... Duddy is good but he is only one of a few credible names.

This division is one of the weakest !!

Pavlik should move up to 168 to fight some more credible opponents ...
even the contenders at super middleweight are credible opponents.

I would like to see Pavlik fight Sakio Bika or Librido Andrade ... The Andre's, Dirrell and Ward ... or fight one of the champions Kessler, Bute, Froch, or that guy that beat Inkin.

 

I just seen the title and thought "is it **** I'm sick of people pulling up weak divisions and try making out they're the strongest. Junior middle and middle are weak as **** I don't care how stacked they are with B and C level competition or how competitive, it does not make them one of the strongest. Rant over, I do apologize, jeez...
The strongest divisions are probably super middle, welter, junior welter, lightweight, super bantam and super fly.
