How would this fight go down? If Big Daddy could drag Holmes into infighting he has a shot. But if he is forced to box at a distance with Larry could he compete with Holmes jab? Bowe had a damn good one himself and a tad bit more power than Larry. Would be interesting to say the least. Call me crazy but my money would be on Riddick in a close decision.
Larry, decision. Better all around fighter with the durability to stand up to Bowe when it gets rough (which I admit it will) and that counts legally rough and illegally rough. Tough fight but Holmes would take it with speed, skill and movement. He was quite far from inept on the inside himself, as well. 99% sure it goes the distance here also.
I'll pick Holmes of June 11, 1982, and at 212 pounds to decision the lazy Bowe of 1993 who was weighing 245 to 246 pounds in his fights with "Dokes, Fergy & Holy." Larry Holmes is an ATG champ; Bowe is not.... BUT!! I do claim the Nov. 1992 Bowe at 235 pounds who hammered Holy for the title could possibly be top-5 ATG---even if it were for only ONE fight / night.... MR.BILL:hat
Once upon a time I thought that Bowe had the tools to be Larry Holmes +, as he was coming up the ranks. Maybe I and others excpected to much out of him??? I still believe he had the postential to be as great or greater than Larry, but since in reality he did not quite live up to that...I can't see him winning on potential alone! Larry takes a solid UD over 12 and maybe even stops him late if it goes 15!
I think it's more accurate like a tad bit less than Foreman than a tad bit more than Larry. I think Bowe might have trouble with him in log range , but less trouble than Holmes would have had with Bowe .. If Bowe does the right thing against Holmes which is hold and hit when Holmes clinches , then he just might wear him down in a 12 rounds fight , but even if not , then he will at least win some kind of a decision. Holmes never fought anyone like Bowe.
Holmes wins the decision with a few shaky moments here and there. Larry had a nice reach, good set of whiskers, better than average mobility and one of the very best jabs of all time. He's not going to battle Bowe at close range the way that Holyfield did, and while he was still the smaller man, had at least enough size to rival Bowe with.
Holmes' speed and quickness would be the biggest obstacles for Bowe to overcome. Bowe was a very good boxer with a great jab, but compared to prime Holmes, Bowe would look like he was fighting underwater. He would be too slow and plodding to beat Larry Holmes. But Bowe would make it competitive, and he'd definitely have the power to hurt Holmes.
Bowe was overrated and had zero ability to deal with a jab. Holmes had an ATG jab. Not much more to say. Mismatch.
Even though Bowe would be the best fighter that Holmes ever faced, I think Riddick got hit too much but Bowe was better than any version of Witherspoon,Smith,Cooney, Shavers or Snipes so Holmes would have to be his very best to pull off a Decision, Bowe had a decent right hand and could possibly pull off a win but im leaning with Larry and a lot of movement
I think you mean best fighter Holmes ever beat (barring the ghost of Ali) cause Holmes faced better guys than Bowe.
