Chest to chest and in the clinch is inside fighting. Tyson was brilliant from mid range where he could slip and counter and had his arms free. Up close not so much. He was hugely dangerous against guys that covered up and/or tried to wait him out a bit as he could sit at his preferred range and open their defenses up. If you didn't get some of your own offense going he would eat you alive. It had to be good offense tho as he could slip and counter superbly.

Here's Tyson fighting chest to chest in sparring.

Just because Tyson allowed his opponents to tie him up in the clinch doesn't mean that Liston would bully him on the inside. Tyson's specialty is to literally throw short and powerful punches from either side up close.

Which has nothing to do with my original point that even at the twilight of his career, he had no issue going backwards. Something you've claimed he's never done.

Yes against a journeyman whose only defense is to block punches with his face. You can literally do anything you want with that level of opponent. As far as i know Sonny might have been doing a Ali impression in there

That's a cop out if I've ever seen one.

We've went from "Liston never displayed the ability to fight backwards." to "Well he did but look who he faced lols"

In any event, he did the same against Cleveland Williams, a top contender. What's your excuse there?

I don't recall him boxing on the back foot in either of those fights. show some footage.

Either way, we're discussing Tyson against Liston. Everyone knows Tyson thrives on his opponents backing up. If Liston does decide to back up it will only play into Tyson's hands

Depends on how many of those perfect jabs Mike is eating.

Styles favor Sonny Liston. I am sure of that much. But Mike Tyson would be a real challenge for Liston. I still have to favor Sonny Liston in this match up, by a late stoppage. The styles tip the scales in Liston's favor for me.

You're acting as if Liston's only weapon was his jab, it wasn't. It may have been his best weapon, but he had many more tools at his disposal to take Tyson out. Tyson's peak-a-boo style would've eventually got him caught by Sonny.

Also this, Tyson was practically useless in the clinch and Liston would've taken advantage of that.

Some say that Tyson was much better than Floyd Patterson and you couldn't use the fight as a comparison.

Both use the peek-a-boo technique in their nature and were trained by Cus D’Amato
who also trained Rooney. Floyd was destroyed by Liston. You cannot ignore this fact

Liston always my favorite in this fantasy fight.

If im not mistaken all Mike had to offer were 'Thin Mints' and all though flavorful, there just too thin.

Tyson allowed his opponents to hold on to him and didn't get in position to fight in the clinch. That doesn't mean that he would ***** out if somebody started throwing hands at him. I just showed a video of Mike fighting chest to chest in sparring

You have to be trolling at this point.
You said I can’t use Liston VS Johnson because of the quality of opponent and here you are bringing up a sparring session.

Tyson pussying out from fighting up close is just not gonna happen be it from a sparring partner or anybody else
