I agree that Tyson beats Foreman in 1991. Both George and Mike were better then than they were five years later. Funnily enough Foreman stands a better chance in '96,as he had n't slipped as much as Tyson in the interim, despite being much the older man.
And Tyson's power was proven against the likes of tomato cans like Buster Douglas, who knocked Tyson the **** out in his prime
:good Good stuff as usual azzer.... This Old Foreman Vs Tyson **** has been thrashed on the classic lol
Obviously tyson was still more talented in every aspect in 96, he just wasn't as conditioned for a 12 round fight as tyson was. In 91 mike would kick his arse all night long. In 96 mike would kick it till he gassed in about the 6th, i'd presume any come forward fighter would crumble within them 6 rounds.
By 1996 Tyson's skills deteriorated considerably. It's not that hard to envision someone as tough as Tua or Mercer to last a bit longer that 6 rounds.
Tommy almost had ray out early and I think tyson has more power and speed than he does. Tua is tough to call. Lewis was very safety first against him so it isn't a great indication of his chin. It depends on how we view ike really. Tua survived a war with ike and shipped a lot of leather in the process but is there any reason to believe that ike was as powerful, quick and accurate as 96 tyson? Honestly I just can't see any non-defensive fighter surviving against the kind of slaughter mike put bruno through in the rematch. If tua comes out wild swinging willing to meet mike in the middle... Tua is getting knocked out cold within a couple of rounds. Again, like with the foreman scenario, if tua can survive 6 rounds either through chin or making mike respect their power, than it should be easy pickings after the halfway mark.
No need for exaggerations, Luf. Despite catching some serious leather Mercer wasn't even visibly hurt early in the fight. Bruno is not the best example of a durable fighter. I don't think Tua's durability can be questioned. It has been proven thoughout his entire career. Tua getting stopped in a couple of rounds sounds totally unrealistic to me - regardless of who his opponent is. Especially if we're talking about severely declined version of Tyson. And Tua himself was a brutal puncher while Tyson wasn't as nearly as elusive as he was in his prime.
I watched highlights of that fight again not so long back on kotv and tommy looked like he was gonna end it at some point. I'm not saying because he destroyed bruno he'd destroy anyone, i'm using that as the peak version of tyson from his comeback. I think when putting anyone in against tyson, their durability should be questioned. Tyson from 96 was well declined from his peak but still a world class fighter for 6 rounds. Many fights end with seemingly unrealistic outcomes but noone, imo, can survive a brawl with tyson. Tua won't be cute, he'll be ferocious as he always was in the 90's, he won't step back and consequently he'll be murdered.
Its hard to believe Tua was knocked out so quickly in the amatuers by Savon. He never showed a weak chin as a pro. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3JRgun7wG8[/ame]
Dont forget that Foreman was only stopped once compaered to 5 times for Tyson. Tyson was stopped by Douglas,Williams,McBride etc Old Foreman took 20 Tommy Morrison left hooks flush on the chin and didnt go down. And George has more artillery than you think. Ask Bert Cooper who quit after a round house to the side. Tyson was a 5 round KO artist. George could survive the early attack and KO Tyson late.
One thing's for sure - these bombs from Morrison were brutal! Prime Tyson beats Tua, in my opinion. But Tyson of 1996 vs Tua is a very intriguing match-up for me.
