IT is also a shame that the 80 team never participated, it had several great fighters on it.

That's politics for you. Politicians beating their chests stopped us from seeing two really great teams testing their stuff (the 1980 US team not going, and the 1984 team competing in a boycott Olympics missing some of the major powers in amateur boxing). For my money, the '76, '84, and '88 teams were the best. And the 1988 team had to deal with all the BS that got put out in Seoul.

Great team...and Cauthen is a pretty good fighter too, he just fights way out of his weight class, he should be at 140.

This team was a little before my time. So I can't assess it as well an older fan could. But I will say that this team had some outstanding talent. Clearly Taylor and Biggs were the stars of this squad. This team was loaded, I mean Whitaker was on this team and he wasn't even the most talented fighter on the squad. Holyfield and Hill are of course outstanding, and Tillman was prety good himself. I'm probably overlooking some talent on this team, but once again, they're before my time.

That's crazy. And Holyfield probably would've won gold had he not been disqualified.

Oh yeah, Tyson was an alternate for Tillman, too.

Didn't the Cubans boycott the 84 olympics?

Well the Cubans are known to put grown ass men in there, while the U.S sends teenagers, so you never know. Never the less, that squad was loaded.
