Not according to their trainer Manny Steward: “Wladimir is the most talented big man that I have ever seen or worked with. This man has more one punch power than anyone I’ve trained” Yeah… Lewis isn’t walking through ****. Lol
There's no reasoning with people that believe their opinion is fact. I think it's called the Dunning-Kruger effect?
Of course he would say that he was the one getting paid lol. Lewis wouldn’t have time to turn him in to putty like he did Vit. He’d dropped him hard and fast.
People are saying Lewis walks through Wlad, but that's impossible; Lewis walks one step towards Dr. Octoclutch and he's all wrapped up.
I’m more annoyed we didn’t get the Lewis-Vitali rematch than I am Lewis didn’t fight Wlad. Around the time they filmed Oceans 11 Lewis would’ve sparked Wlad out. Wlad was chinny earlier in his career. Vitali was chinny never. That’s why Vitali gave Lewis such hell. He stood in there and traded haymakers. Wlad would’ve gotten put out by those shots.
Wlad wasn't a clincher pre-Brewster 1 and wasn't even a clincher at 41 against SHW Joshua: the most similar opponent to Lewis he fought.
Lewis and Wlad both had chin problems but Wlad was more athletic and powerful than Lewis, with better offensive skill than Vitali. So while Wlad could have got put out by Lewis, Lewis could have been McCall'd or Rahman'd early too.
"Of course he would say that he was the one getting paid lol." Lewis's ex-opponents Mercer and Phil Jackson said the same thing. If it was just about fluffing Wlad then he'd have said "Wlad is my greatest heavyweight" but he didn't, before he died he still said Lewis was his greatest at that time. He also said that Lewis had several advantages over Wlad. So it's more likely that Steward was being honest about Wlad's advantages.
I would lean towards a prime Lewis ever so slightly, but at this particular time it's hard for me seeing an older and slower LL deal with Wlads raw talent at that time. Wlad hits harder than Vitali and while I think it's possible Lewis could out dog Wlad and wind up stopping him late in a war... part of me also think Wlad has too much power for that to happen and Lewis gets stopped. It's a tough call for me.
A pre-prime Wlad was very vulnerable. However, he was also a lot less cautious, where he was far more aggressive. A very dangerous fight for Lennox.
