2016 super heavyweight field. The Olympic class offers good talent and depth. Below is my review of the fighters, and his chances to medal in Rio.

2-star prospect - Regional talent at best, not likely to make it in the top 40 in the pro ranks. Could be a good journeyman if he wants to.

1-star prospect - Lucky to be there due to an easy geographical qualifier. Not suited for the pro game.

Filip Hrgović (CRO) - This young gun ( Age 24 ) is a slim favorite to win gold. He's big ( 6'5" ), can box, and take a punch! Hrgovic is a bit like focused Andrew Golota in style, except his intangibles and heart have been proven to be excellent. He cleaned up in the very pro like world series of boxing. I predict either gold or silver for him. Hrgovic needs to go pro.

Erik Pfeifer (GER) - The German is decent. He has a shot at a bronze with a favorable draw. I predict no medal.

** 1/2 Pro Prospect

Mihai Nistor (ROU) - A shorter and aggressive power puncher type with a good chin. He's better suited for the pro game. He has a chance to get a KO, but I do not think he's a good enough boxer to past round one.

Tony Yoka ( Fra ) - Yoka ( age 24 ) is a super heavyweight with fine skills, and a suspect chin. He won the world amateur championships in 2015 and took Bronze in the Euro games in 2015. I think he'll medal as long as he doesn't fight a top guy early. Likely to go pro.

Mohamed Arjaoui (MAR) - He's likely a first round out. Only here because three must qualify from Africa. Born 1987

*1/2 star Pro prospect

Efe Ajagba (NGR) - Born in 1984. I have some faith in Nigerian heavyweight boxers, but suspect he's a first or second round loser.

** 1/2 pro prospect

Davilson Morais (CPV) - Never heard of him. He's the last to qualify from the African continent. Sounds like a sure loser in round one.

* 1/2 star pro prospect

Nigel Paul (TRI)- (born 27 June 1989). A super heavyweight boxer from Trinidad and Tobago? Very rare. I doubt he goes far. Likely first round loser.

* Star pro prospect.

Lenier Pero (CUB) - Anyone Cuba send is decent, but he's not as good as some of the most famous Cuban amateurs. Pero's a southpaw with fast hands who won gold at the pan am games a while back in 2010 but hasn't made much noise since. He could be a dark horse, but I predict no medal and a 1st or 2nd round exit

** 1/2 star pro prospect

Clayton Laurent (ISV) Born in 1991. From the US Virgin Islands. The 3rd man in, I doubt he makes it out of round one.

*1/2 star pro prospect.

Ivan Dychko (KAZ) Age 25. A very tall ( 6'8" tall ) and extremely mobile boxer a bit like Vitali Klitschko in looks and style. Dychko has won silver at the world amateur championships and bronze at the Olympics. He could win gold in 2016. I think he'll medal in 2016 unless he gets a tough draw. Might go pro.

Bakhodir Jalolov (UZB) - This 6'8" 22 year old won Bronze in the 2015 world amateur championships. He defeated Lenier Pero (CUB) , but lost to Dycko in the semi-finals. That was a year ago. How much has he improved since?

Hussein Ishaish (JOR)- Never saw or heard of him. Likely a first round loser.

* 1 1/2 Star pro prospect

Joseph Joyce (GBR) - England big man is 30, but he's also 6'6" with a good amateur pedigree. Joyce won Bronze in the world amateurs and gold in the Europans in 2015. Very likely to go pro. I think he has a shot for a bronze medal. His main problem is a shaky chin. He has been stopped a few times.

Magomedrasul Majidov (AZE) - Age 29. The best puncher of the group. Majidov is very heavy handed. His punches land with a thud and the other guy is either hurt or quickly retreats. Won Bronze in the 2012 games and gold twice in the World Amateur Championships in 2013 and 2011. Decent boxer, better suited for the pro game. I think he'll medal. Silver is my best guess, but gold is a possibility. Will he turn pro?

Ali Eren Demirezen (TUR) - I think he exits in round one.

*1/2 stars

2016 Guido Vianello (ITA) - Never heard of him. A likely loser in round one or two.

* 1/2 star pro prospect.

Edgar Muñoz (VEN) - A blown up light heavy, who's 33 years old. I expect him to lose in round one. One of the weakest of the lot, possibly the weakest.

Any fighter that makes it to the Olympics is going to be a good Pro. Look at Raushee ******. He didn't even make it to the quarter finals and he is now a champ.
