MAN, DO YOU SOUND LIKE A DLH FRUSTRATED FAN.... DLH LOST ALL THOSE FIGHTS... AND TO STURM TOO, NOT TO MENTION 1 OR 2 MORE... DEAL WITH IT DAZ52... BTW DLH IS NOT HELPING THE SPORT BY FIGHTING FOR WORLD TITLES WITHOUT DESERVING IT (BEING RANKED THE GOOD OL'WAY, BY FIGHTING YOUR WAY TO THE TOP) HE SHOULDN'T BE RANKED ANY MORE AND FIGHTING FORBES DOES NOT MAKE THE TRICK! IT'S LIKE THE YANKEES GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN'T QUALIFY, JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE BEST FAN BASE OF THE GAME .... GOOD THING FOR BASEBALL OR ANY OTHER SPORT EXCEPT BOXING THAT THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT WORKS!!

The seminal post focuses on the United States and presents arguments that are debatable.

In other parts of the world, the popularity of boxing is actually on the rise.

In Quebec, Canada, for instance, boxing is known to be the second major sports in terms of popularity after hockey. Examples are legion.

A lot of the reasons aren't complicated.

When you have the Superbowl of fights being on PPV, that tends to decrease your fan base.

When you have a million titles, it's hard for casual fans to know who the real champ is at a certain weight.

No single governing body like the NBA, MLB, and NFL. There is no promotion. No single body to get it all together and promote this sport. It's all about self preservation.

HBO and PPV are not hurting boxing. IF anything they are keeping it alive. Why do you suppose that the superbowl is not on PPV? It is the most watched sporting event in the US and surely would put up numbers that make DLH vs Wayweather look like peanuts. However it is not on PPV because it's popularity makes the sport pay for itself in terms of avertising revenue.

If boxing promoters were to aproach any of the big networks (NBC, Fox, CBS) and ask for air time they'd get turned down. Why would you want something that will only attract a couple of million viewers when you can attract 10times that many for desperate housewives. As a result PPV is neccesary in order to give fighters the paydays that they need to stay in the sport and give us the fights that we want to see.

Causal fans need to be able to recognise one champ per division, and casual fans probably make up 99% of Boxing fans.

5.Not on network TV so generl population doesn't grow with fighters

    7. UFC is on the rise along with MMA AND THE CBS deal is the best thing to happen for them.

Our culture has changed when my dad was growing up they had boxing gymns and boys clubs all over America. They grew up in cities and that is what they did. There was baseball and a little football and boxing. World War two was going on and boxing was an outlet Joe Lewis revenged his loss to the German Max Schmelling and they were heroes. If it wasn't for my dad I wouldn't have been a boxing fan. Since the 60's things have deteriated with Ali you either loved him or hated him which brought an interest. sugar Ray Leonard brought an interest back. Now it is different we do not do as well in the Olympics and the Russian and Cubans are really not our enemies The best fighters are not from the USA. We live in a more mobile society PPV is another reason MMA is popular because people donot understand it and is unpopular among others because people donot understand it.

Personally I think the alphabet titles, and bogus ranking systems do far more to hurt boxing than HBO, Showtime, and PPV combined. If we had one world champion in each division far more people who know who they are. If we had a real ranking system, we would have far better match making.

Think about this question; what if winky had to actually beat a top 5 guy to maintain his ranking at 160? Here's another question; Giovonni Lorenzo's last 6 opponents had 55 losses, and he has yet to face a top 50 fighter, so what the **** is he doing in the top 10?

With a decent ranking system we would see fights like Winky/Abraham for a shot at Pavlik, and Tarver/Dawson for a shot at Calzaghe. Trust me; changing the ranking system would make a HUGE difference in boxings popularity.

  10. Because the mma and UFC are gaining in popularity, Boxing is on the decline, no free tv anymore, mismatches, corrupt decisions, i could go on but you all get the idea..

He is just bringing up that the outside world sneaks into boxing every once in a while when DLH fights. When the fighter the outside world comes to fight gets ripped off then those people are not going to buy the next fight. I guess you can think of it as customer service. No one is saying DLH should be given his fights on a silver platter but there is a difference to the public if he gets ripped off than if someone like Castillo or Marquez gets ripped off. This is difficult in a case like Mayweather's because Mayweather did beat DLH but the mass of people who tuned in feel DLH won and are still pissed about it. You could talk subtlety with them all day but to them they saw one guy come to fight and the other on the backfoot.

See I don't agree here. Boxing used to be on network TV. It stoppd coming on because it lost popularity. Boxing is not on network TV because it is not popular not vice versa.

Hatton, Calzaghe and Khan are the only boxers the general public recognises. After these three Floyds the most well known fighter due to his fight with Hatton.

Witter/Bradley was on free tv yet most people I asked didn't even know it was on. Haye/Enzo was billed as the biggest domestic fight in 15 years yet most of the newspapers didn't even cover the fight. All there was a small article two days later.
