WTF. The scene announced this bout for Adrenaline MMA III. It was going to have MMA rules but the makers felt that it would be closer if it was a boxing match.

    Who wins?

Mercer should retire. He has not really accomplished much in boxing, even in his prime.

    Maybe he needs the money.

If Mercer stays in pro boxing, he'll be looked at as one of those "name" fighters, an over the hill trailhorse for young up and comers to knock out and have as a notch on their W column.

In MMA, he'll be seen as a former world boxing champion and Olympic boxing gold medalist with serious hand striking skills and punching power.

Boxing vs MMA, which is better?!
    Ooooooh.. intriguing..

Who knows which is better. Matter of opinion. I like boxing. As for Mercer, fact is that he was never that great.. But he does have decent power. What he did to Morrison was devastating, although the ref should have stopped that earlier.

I think it is pretty obvious that Mercer needs the money. This is the guy that wasted his prime years by being an unmotivated fat slob and by blowing a shot at the real title by losing to Jesse Ferguson by showing up for the fight overweight and unmotivated. The man is basically ignorant.

Mercer has become an embarrassment to boxing with his 24 second loss in a K-1 fight and the Kimbo Slice fiasco.

It appears he getting to embarrass boxing yet again.

Yeah Mercer is clearly one of the 10 best heavyweights of the 90's. #4 or 5 in my book. Only behind Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, and maybe Tyson.

Mercer used to be a pretty damn good boxer. Heck, he was good enough to out-jab Lennox Lewis. Back in the day, he would have just destroyed Silvia in a boxing match.. but now, I'm not so sure.. Silvia is a big boy and Mercer isn't gonna be able to just get inside and hit him with combinations (I don't think, at least).

I'll be rooting for him, but I think he's just too old.

Kimbo beat him up in a cage match - but that was MMA rules. Kimbo didn't even attempt to box with him, he just took him down right away. Now, he's gonna throw blows with a tall, strong dude with big range.. it'll be very interesting to see.

I assume they are going to be using the small gloves (?).

I remember watching Silva and thinking if he was in with Lennox Lewis is would be an extremely short fight. I think Lewis would demolish him under either rules because I don't think Silva could have taken him down without getting hit. His defense and striking is terrible. But as for Mercer I have to confess and say I haven't seen him fight in probably 15 years or so. So i'm not sure how much he's declined. I do know he can take a punch and I know Silva's defense is nothing special, but there's what a 10 year age difference? How many rounds 10? what the hell I'll pick Mercer but as mentioned I haven't seen him fight in years.

Mercer has really gone downhill, who knows what'll happen, but Mercer has been bad in MMA.
