6'5" 270 Pounds Ray Edwards Makes His Boxing debut This Friday

We need more good heavies. Hope he works out okay.

 

In the interview I watched, he seemed way, way too cocky.
And it's my understanding he has no amateur career, is that correct?

There are a lot of big guys who end up being "good" boxers, but never making it to the top, and there are even more big guys who never even get that far.

He does have success in another sport, and that's a positive for him to some degree, but I also wonder if it could be a negative, I wonder if he thinks it's going to be easier than it really will be?? Perhaps not, just a thought (he sure is cocky though...dang)

He's going to have to get a lot of fights, and eventually he's going to have to face someone with a pulse, and then another, etc...

Let's be realistic, he wants to be heavyweight champ, and he's just starting out. Look at what happened to Shannon Briggs when he fought Vitali. Shannon is close to the same height (6'4 vs 6'5) and muscular build (262 vs 268 ) as Edwards, and Shannon has YEARS of experience (50+ pro fights, many against BIG names) that Edwards lacks.

Stamina is something I also wonder about. The NFL is 10-15 seconds at a time, rest a minute plus, 10-15 more seconds of play time, repeat, repeat, repeat. That's what Edwards body is trained for right now...he's going to have to drastically change that for boxing.

My guess is that Edwards will go back to the NFL, he's not going to give up the guaranteed paycheck, and he's got to pick one or the other, it definitely can't be both. Whatever happens, should be interesting to watch. And hey, if he surprises me and decides to dedicate himself 100% to boxing, good for him. I just don't see that happening.

 

Continuous movement in boxing gasses him.

He'll be a curious attraction at best.

But at least he gives American Heavyweight Boxing something interesting.

 

These football ***gots really bug me. They think they are God's gift to everyone and everything. The simple reason for this is that nobody ever says NO to them. They get everything handed to them from an early age and inturn develope this entitlement/God complex that they can do anything they want because they are super NFL athletes.

Look at this Edwards *******. Note how proud he is of "beating up" other kids while growning up. Most normal people feel bad about winning a fight even if the other guy had it coming. Because that is how well adjusted grounded people are tought to feel by their responsible parents. But not super football ****** Edwards, this very dark side of humanity makes him proud.

Edwards is also obligated to mention how ecclectic he is through his modeling career. Another prime example of never being told NO. The guy looks like the south end of a north bound mule but someone had to stroke his massive ego and make him a model.

Overgrown babies with delusions of grandeur, At least the overwhelming majority.

NBA is even worse....

 

Comparing a guy like Edwards who is a highly conditioned professional football player to a guy like shannon briggs though is a mistake. For one, Edwards will be way more conditioned stamina wise, also no asthma.

Like I said the guy is fast, very fast on his feet, in shape and big. A guy that big if he is trained right by steward will learn to punch and knock mutha ****ers out.


We need all the new blood we can get!

I wonder what his stamina is like. Because he will someday learn that boxing is a different kind of sport than football.

The guy is big, but he's picking up boxing FAR too late to ever make any inroads beyond winning against a few tomato cans.

He obviously hasn't taken a shot on the chin yet either. Let's see how he handles that when the time comes. :hat

You can't go into boxing thinking you will succeed just because you are big. This train will wreck sooner than later.

 

Audley Harrison was also a big guy who was athletic, plus he had a gold medal at the Olympics. It will be very surprising if this American football player doesn't get exposed before he ever makes it to Euro level
