I won’t expand on this idea yet, I want to get the usual indignation out of the way.

I’m convinced. Buster was a second rate Holmes, even in Tokyo.

Yes Buster was a second rate copy of a prime Holmes.
I would confidently pick a 78-82 version of Holmes to take Tyson either by KO or making him quit.

Prime Holmes would be a much more formidable test for Tyson than he was in 1988. I’m not sold either way on who would win. While Larry was a truly great champion at his best he showed moments of vulnerabilities against lesser fighters. No matter what it would be a great fight

Yet he got dropped hard twice over that period with the same shot that Tyson used to ruin his life.

Larry had no quit in him. All heart. Tyson for all his talent was a quitter.

That Holmes , from that time frame, would be in with a great shot at beating Tyson.

Mike Tyson seems to agree with you, saying that he wouldn't stand a chance against a prime Holmes. But we can only speculate.

Holmes was nothing like Douglas but he does win.

Tyson is in a disadvantageous spot against very many ATG HWs, as he never quite had that championship mentality and experience and was basically a raw talent untested at the top level in his prime.

You call beating almost all Top 10 guys in 3 years as being untested at the top level?

Beating them easily isn’t the same as being untested.

It’s a more difficult run than Holmes ever had.

Since the division was terrible, yes.

When has prime Tyson genuinely struggled to a point where he had to adapt, improve and change something up in his style? That experience is how ATGs are made.

You can only fight who's in front of you. And weakness of eras is subjective too. 90's were called weak while they were happening and now they are called the second golden era.

He had to make adjustments in Pinklon, Tucker and Bruno fights. But it doesn't matter anyway. You're acting like being dominant is a knock to Tyson.

Holmes beat 15 Top 10 guys back to back in 4.5 years. More than Tyson did throughout his career. So nope.

Holmes had no tough opposition during his reign yet did have some tough moments against some including Snipes and Weaver. How much better was Tyson at his peak than those guys? Peak Holmes would be much tougher than the version that Tyson faced. However peak Tyson would be Holmes toughest opponent he ever faced.

Your statement isn’t true. And it wouldn’t matter much if it were. Consult the official text on this matter: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/mike-tyson-had-a-better-career-than-larry-holmes.669560/
