Bowe at his best may beat Tate, but in a 15 rounder, I like Big John's chances, especially if Bowe is in one of his lackadasical moods.Tate also fought good comp coming up, and I have a feeling Bowe wouldn't easily get him out of there.John by Split 15 round decision.

John Tate is hugely under-rated and is basically remembered for those two shocking losses. John had battles with drugs and was ruined by the time he fought Berbick.

The Tate that beat Lopez, Knoetze, Coetzee, Bobick etc was tough, strong and skillful. The coetzee fight was a bore-snore but it really show-cased Tate's skills under massive pressure.

Tate could take a punch before Weaver but the one that got him would have got anyone - forget Berbick, John was done by then.

A sad story; he was a nice guy who just couldn't control his life outside the ring.

    Tate by 15rd decision.

Tate did not have the durability to hang in there with a monster like the prime Riddick Bowe. Bowe would knock Tate out. It's possible that Tate could win a few rounds, though, before being poleaxed.

I don't see this fight going longer than five or six rounds.

Again, against Weaver in 1980, Tate had won 95% of the entire fight by way of skill and guile..... He was tired in round 15 from all the work he had done... Then Weaver landed a beauty of a hook to the jaw of "Tater Chips" Tate and that was it---BOOM! Tate was out on his face....... Tate was indeed never the same.....

10-4............. I got my "Holmes-Weaver" tape rolling.......... Amazing how Weaver was thought to be a mere bum for Holmes in '79....... Weaver came to fight, but he was green and lacked stamina in 1979..... He basically ran outta gas before Holmes tagged him in rounds 11 and 12 with wicked punches, that being an uppercut to floor weaver.......
