If Mosley looks like he did against Cotto,Mayorga then i think a faded ODLH was better than that. If Mosley is as good as he appeared to be against Margo then yey this is the best May has ever fought. 4. Probably, i think a Prime ODLH would have beat Floyd, and Forrest,Winky are just as difficult although all have way different styles than Floyd. 5. Maybe a little bit but lets remember Shane did pretty damn good for himself in the past. 6. Well :think If the Shane that fought Cotto shows up he is getting convincingly beat here, however style wise no shame in losing to Forrest,Winky that doesnt hold much water to me when fighting Floyd. If you are insuating that he has already tasted losing and it will be easier to yield i disagree, Shane is a warrior and will go for it until the final bell. 7. If Mosley hits him clean, i dont think Mayweather could handle his power, but the big if is if Mosley can still pull the trigger fast enough to follow up. 8. If Mayweather wins in dominant fashion,many will consider him better than Pac, If May wins a squeeker no! It might be harder for Mosley to replace Pac, unless he dominates Floyd and kos him in dramatic fashion.
1. It's possible. Maybe even likely. There's a chance that Margarito will turn out to be Shane's last good fight, the way it now looks like the Pavlik fight was for B-hop. 2. Yes. Don't get me wrong, Mayweather is extremely good and one of the more naturally talented fighters in history, but no one is unbeatable. Despite all the evidence of that through the ages, a ton of people treat Mayweather as if he can't be beat by anything short of a boxing god. 3. If Mosley is still the same fighter he was against Margarito, then the answer is no. If he has declined or comes in like he did in the Mayorga fight, then I probably give Oscar the edge there. 4. Prime Oscar, certainly. Winky and Forrest have to be up there too. Forrest may not quite be on that level, but he gets extra points for being Mosley's kryptonite. 5. I think it's fairly significant. Mosley seems much better prepared and to have far superior gameplans and focus with Nazim calling the shots. 6. Well, four of those losses came against two guys with significant physical advantages over Mosley. Forrest had a huge size and reach advantage and, as mentioned above, was Mosley's personal kryptonite because he kicked Mosley's ass in the amateurs and pros. With Winky you have a guy who would fight at middleweight and light heavyweight against a former lightweight in a weight division Shane really wasn't suited to. And to his credit, even though Mosley was never in the first fight he made the second one close. Those fight I don't think apply to the Mayweather bout, because Mayweather doesn't have those advantages at all. (And despite what some people think, you do need more than just a good jab to beat Shane). Now Cotto on the other hand, is a fight Shane could have and probably should have been able to win, but he let it slip through his fingers. That's not to say anything bad about Cotto or disrespect him because he's a very, very good fighter, but that fight really bothered me. When I first saw it, Shane's inability to close the show and the way he got outboxed and outmoved in the last rounds made me wonder if Shane was heading downhill. (Three things stick with me from the end of that fight: 1. How tired Shane looked at the end in the last rounds. 2. How easily Cotto countered Shane. 3. That sequence where Shane was chasing Cotto along the ropes, and suddenly Cotto changes direction, circles to his right rather than his left while ducking under a Mosley hook, and Shane winds up almost halfway across the ring from Cotto. One or two shots at a time, sure. If Shane is somehow able to unload a combination of 4 or 5 big shots within about 10-15 seconds... well then, things will certainly be interesting, won't they? Personal opinion: I think Mayweather could handle that happening once, but it will be a very bad sign. And I don't think Floyd or any other welterweight today can go 12 rounds if Shane can start landing those sort of big punches consistently. 8. In my opinion, no. Just like I refuse to count anyone else as welterweight king until they beat Shane, I can't count anyone else as p4p king until they beat Pacquiao, or Pac loses or goes inactive/into retirement. I can consider it a tie, (and probably will consider Mayweather tied with Pacquiao for the top spot if Floyd wins) but unless something completely mind boggling and incomprehensible happens in the ring, I'm not bumping Pac out of the top just yet.
In the context of Mosley-Floyd, yes. Mosley's win over Margarito is hardly a good gauge to see how he fares with Floyd. But it tells us one thing - Mosley can still fight for the full 12 rounds unlike DLH when he fought Floyd. I think so in the context of Floyd-Mosley. If you look at that record, Floyd only fought a handful of fighters that are bigger than him and those are guys who simply walks forward to take his punch, like Ndou, Corrales and Baldomir. Judah is one fighter comparable to Floyd size and IMO he gave Floyd heaps of trouble early on. IMO Judah is the closest. But Judah's stamina is not as good as that of Mosley. Yes. Prime DLH is definitely as good as Floyd. Prime Forrest is close as well. I think Nazim's addition is a factor, but not by much. I like Mazin though, he seems to be a no nonsense guy. 4 are against bigger fighters that Mosley tried to overpower. One to a very strong WW and Mosley arguably won. I don't think so. Mosley wil overpower him when he goes to the ropes and Mosley will beat him to the jab when they are at the center of the ring. If Floyf wins, yes. Is Mosley wins, Pac becomes undisputed P4P #1 with Mosley as 2nd.
1. Are we reading too much into Mosleys knockout victory over Antonio Margarito? Yes, for a start its completely different styles so I dont see how this is relevant at all. Secondly, stylistically, Mosley had an edge against Margo, Mosley has the toughness Cotto didnt have so would do what Cotto did against Margo for the first 6 rounds, for 12 rounds. Margo also didnt have his plaster. The only thing that shocked me about this fight is the power, Mosley confirmed he had serious power. 2. Is our perception of Mayweather skewed by his perfect record? Yes. Its hard to pick against a guy who has never lost, people tend to follow the norm and the norm is, Floyd doesn't lose. If Floyd has lost before, maybe his first pro fight or something, Mosley would be fighting the exact same PBF now, same age, skills, weight, same everything, but because he doesnt have a perfect record Mosley sure as hell wouldn't be 4-1 underdog! 3. Has Mayweather faced anyone as good as Mosley? Yes. DLH. Use the Mayorga fight as reference, DLH stopped a younger better Mayorga in an easier fight than Mosley did of an older Mayorga just 2 fights ago. Although I think Mosley of 147 is better than DLH of 154, the same is true for PBF, PBF of 147 is better than PBF of 154 so it balances things out. PBF was presented with the same challenge in DLH. The main difference is styles, DLH was not a natural pressure fighter, Roach had to teach him how to pressure for that fight. Shane will bring the pain. 4. Has Mosley faced anyone as good as Mayweather? Yes. P4P DLH was arguably as good. Forest & Wright are not as good p4p but just as good h2h. 5. How significant is the addition of Naazim Richardson as Mosleys trainer? Makes a bit of a difference as Shane has never realy had a top trainer in his corner but too much is made of it. 6. What are we to make of Mosleys five losses? If PBF fought those same 5 fights, I doubt he would be unbeaten either. It says Mosley is beatable, thats about it, so is Floyd, just hasn't happened yet. 7. Can Mayweather handle Mosleys power? If Mosley hits flush, I doubt it. IF he hits flush. 8. Will the winner supplant Manny Pacquiao as the No. 1 fighter pound for pound? No. IMO if PBF didnt retire, but didnt fight anyways but just stayed in ranking, Pac was already right behind him and after Pac beat DLH, 50/50 would have been the opinion as to who was the p4p #1. Basing it on that, you have to compare PBF's 2 wins after their deadlock on the p4p rankings which is JMM & Mosley, vs Pac's Hatton, Cotto, Clottey...all seem to be demolition jobs. Pac clearly has the edge. I dont think Mosley is even in contention for it right now, but he would be a clear #2.
