How does a green Tyson do against a Peak Lyle?

Lyle TKO in 6 or 7 (at the latest)

Mike would have been too young, though losing by mid-round TKO might have served him well in the future. It might have given him something to prove and endurance.

Ron Lyle, he was a world class fighter and would lose to no fighter on their debut and would not lose to a Tyson who had near no experience

I didn’t mean debut Tyson, but the late 85 version

To be honest, Cus D Amato would have not put Mike Tyson in with a wily veteran like Ron Lyle right away, Mike was learning the ropes. But later on probably before the title bout against Trevor Berbick in November 1986, he would have. But a good hypothetical match.

The Berbick Mike would have stopped Lyle, no doubt in my mind

Just playing devils advocate here.....if we take the green tyson of december 1985 who is 15-0 ....is there anything to suggest Tyson at this stage lacks endurance ?

Tyson was sometimes sparring 15 round blocks against 4 seperate sparring partners.....tyson had been sparring young unbeaten heavies like a 1982 bruno and 83 carl the truth...as a 16/17 year old......would he really be intimidated by lyle? Lyle"s own stamina wasnt great.

Tyson was green, and if we're talking about a prime Lyle, who is very dangerous, Lyle would undoubtedly be the winner. However, Tyson would have been competitive w/ Lyle, and I think he could last the distance w/ Lyle and lose the decision. I think it would be an instance similar to when Lyle fought Stan Ward, except more pleasing to the eye.

    Tyson would probably lose.

6 months later, in real life, he had quite a tough fight with James Tillis.

Lyle was nothing special but he was tough and a good all-rounder. Not great in any department but good at almost everything. He boxed okay, he punched pretty good, he took a punch pretty well, he was strong, tough, showed heart.

    A peak Lyle beats a 15-0 Tyson.

Good question, Jamal. Partly I agree with William:

Except I do think Mike was too green to last the distance with Lyle. How many people knocked down Foreman (and almost stopped him twice?)

Mike had a GREAT defense in his prime 80s incarnation. But at this early stage it wasn't honed, perfected. In a way I think the Tillis fight did him a world of good.

Lyle stops Mike in 6 or under. Mike couldn't take those shots for long...and let's face it, Lyle's lack of being intimidated would take a lot of the fight out of Mike.

maybe ur right, Mike hadn't been in any tough fights up until Tillis as u say, and he never traded w/ a big bomber up until Bruno in '89

Tyson Still very green in 85. An experienced Lyle could well take advantage. Unless Lyle freezes up, like many did against Tyson, then there s a chance of a upset. Maybe a late ko or point s win for Ron.
At this point in time, Tyson was still learning, he went through a slightly tough time with Tillis. Lyle had a solid punch to so Mike s getting knocked around a bit to.
