How can the tepid Tucker last the distance but Holmes get KO’d early?

An over-the-hill, past his peak, Holyfield beat a past his ‘prime’ Tyson. Yet all the Tyson-ites will tell you it counts for nothing. But when it happens the other way round it’s seen as a definitive fight.

No version of Holmes danced and snapped his jab for every minute of every round. When he got off his bike for a second, which he would of done regardless of what age he was, Tyson landed that beautiful one two because his hands were down.

Tucker happens to have a granite chin, and he fought to survive

By the same logic (actually, this is better logic), if Renaldo Snipes could drop and seriously hurt Larry Holmes, how can you favor Holmes against Tyson?

I lean towards Holmes in this one. His jab would have given Mike fits, when Tyson found out that Larry was n't going anywhere. Holmes would in trouble though if Tyson connected, but I think that the Easton assassin would manage to pull through. Very tight bout.

Holmes had been kayoed twice earlier in his career in the amateurs, yet Larry was a different fighter when he was in his prime yet still the right hand was always Larry's achilles heel. I think that Holmes would defeniatly had a chance in his prime , he was younger faster more durable more willing to exchange , more willing to run when needed, Larry was one of the best of all time to be able to fight a long fight that alone IMO was his strongest assest. He was the human version of the energizer bunny, Mr Iron lungs. Mike would struggle against a peak Holmes but could still win IF he lands a bomb. If Larry finds a way to dictate the pace of the fight and is able to fight his fight then Larry wins.

How do you work out that Tyson would kayo a prime Holmes quicker than he would a rusty over the hill one ?

Holmes also had a great chin. He was a far superior fighter to Tucker in almost every aspect of the game.

    Henry Cooper dropped Ali.

    Galento dropped Louis.

    Lavine dropped Robinson.

    Howard dropped Ray Leonard.

There is no logic in any of this.

    Tyson struggled to beat Tillis...

I don't really care who you think would win. I just think that the 'logic' behind some of the predictions I've read is paper thin.

hahahahahahahaha very funny, does mike knows you're tongue is up his ass ??
ali, louis, lewis, liston, foreman they all would take him. and also a prime holmes. it wouldn't be easy for larry since tyson isn't a good match-up for him but still i would put my money on larry.

I think that this is a bit of an exageration of Tyson's abilities. I agree however, that he would have been a force to be reckoned with for just about anyone.

I think that Holmes endurance, recuperative powers, and boxing ability would carry him into the late rounds, or even the distance. But, I don't see him coming up with the win. In fact, I think he'd be on the defensive for most of the fight, and would likely get dropped at least once or twice. My guess is that Tyson stops him late, or takes a decision.

His hands weren't down. His guard was wide, and Tyson landed on him. But, Tyson did so because he didn't throw the jab out. A 38 year old Holmes, although it's the best we have to judge how the fight would have gone, isn't a fair indication of Holmes' ability. I don't judge the best of Tyson based on his performance against Danny Williams.

Tyson was 19 years old against Tillis. And where did I say Tucker was superior to Holmes? He had a granite chin and held on for dear life most of the fight, I'd like to see anyone stop a guy like that over 12.

Going the distance isn't going life and death with an opponent, but getting knocked on your ass and on the verge of getting knocked out by Renaldo ****ing Snipes is struggling to win and more indicative of a head to head matchup against Tyson than him getting a clear decision win at 19 years old. When Larry was that age and even older he was getting knocked out by Bobick in the amateurs, where Tyson was champion of the world at 20.

    Ah, much better
Holmes was throwing the jabs out in that 4th round. It's why Tyson nearly decapitated him with his right hand, Holmes stopped holding on and running, which he would of done earlier in his prime years.

The 38 year old Holmes we're talking about here went on to beat an undefeated Ray Mercer 4 years later, showing he still had gas in the tank. Tyson against Danny Williams is a sad scene by comparison, it was tragic seeing a man who was once perhaps the best HW of all time get stopped by a guy like Danny Williams because he's that far past it. I still haven't found the guts to watch him fight McBride, his only fight on film that I haven't seen.
