There are people out there who seriously think that Old George could have beaten a prime Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson.

People can’t get past the name, and see that he was one of the most marginal lineal champions in history.

I am somewhat concerned that only 2 of the 3 have voted.
Is there unrest within the Primo 3 camp?
Janitor Corbyn will have to rally the troops!

If Carnera held the title in Old Foreman's time he would defend against Virgil Hill and then some heavyweight who was 35 and hadn't been ranked for 5 years an Orlin Norris or a Mike Dokes ,just as he did while his top contender was waiting to be crowned in a formality [Baer ,] and he'd probably lose !

The genuinely elite ones would not include Carnera!

I would confidenlty pick Tucker ,Lewis,Bowe, and the Holmes that beat Mercer to beat Carnera.

Source that has Louis calling Carnera a lumbering oaf?
In "My Life Story" Louis explains that Carnera was his biggest test at that point in his career.
Training camp was a very serious affair and their team saw the Carnera fight as their big moment.
The team was bigger than 10 people. And Louis remarking "Everyone worked hard. We knew that this was the big moment, because Carnera was surely a big man."

Maybe before the bout, Louis saw Primo as a possible threat, however, it proved not to be the case at all, when he discovered just how limited he was.

Right before the match a reporter asked Louis when he will take Carnera. He said" Inside of 5 rounds."
    He ended it in 6.

Also, in "My Life Story" he gives a quick round-by-round breakdown of the fight. In no part of it does he mention Carnera in a derogatory or negative way.

"Carnera kept poking his left jab as much as he could in the third and fourth rounds. And whenever he could, he roughed it up a bit, trying to use his weight to slow me down."

"Just before the end of the fifth, I saw an opening and shot a right hand to the chest. Carnera started to wobble, so I figured that he would soon be on his way out."

No. But this "take a shot in the dark" bias fueled historic analysis is amusing.
    What else?

I have the book open on my desk as I type this, can't seem to find the quotes you have posted!lol
Maybe you have a special " Reznik" edition?

After watching Baer swing and miss Braddock all night Louis told his managers "I'm ready for that kind of fight right now!"
He said of Cranera," he had nothing"."They were looking at his size not his talent". "I knew after I saw a movie of Baer beating Carnera that I could take him"" I had all the confidence I needed for Carnera""I got in some hard punches in round one.He just moved around and flicked out a jab.The first thing that shocked Carnera and the audience was that instead of him handling me like a baby I handled him. They were looking at his size not his talent " "He couldn't punch but he had a pretty decent jab,he pushed with his right and he was awkward" "He never hurt me once".

Sounds like an all time great to me!
To my knowledge you are the only poster who has used the term," lumbering oaf," in connection with Carnera!

You don't think the expression," he had nothing" and ,"he couldn't punch ," are derogatory or negative?
I can't find the underlined quotes in Louis' book.Which page do you say they are on?
