96-94; 97-94; 99-91 these were the scorecards of the judges last night, i think the 99-91 card looks a bit off
Barker was an unknown fighter from the UK while Martinez is a HBO product they were fighting in a city with an established boxing scene not surprising there was a fixed judge put in place
Barker won 3 rounds. 99-91 is too wide, 96-94 is a lil'too close but acceptable. I had it 97-94 myself. None of this matters of course as Barker got KTFO.
Alejandro Rochin Mapula, other than alvarez vs gomez doesnt have a lot of experience of high level fights i think. I think was a case of scoring in favour of who looked good rather than who was being effective
Wow so Barker gave Martinez a tough fight. Barker - Macklin will be next after a warm for each probably.
sky sports had it 58-57 at one point i think in favour of barker, i think there was no more than 1 maybe 2 rounds in it at the end
I think Sky had it 96-94 (Martinez) or 95-95, it wasn't until round 8 that Jim Watt piped in with "Maybe he isn't doing enough to win any of these rounds"
I think it sounds like Barker did well for a first mega fight. He's only had 23 bouts and he gave an improving Martinez a tougher fight than most rival champs would imo.
Barker done himself no harm at all will benifit from it he now knows he can go in there with the top fighters in the division and hold his own a good domestic fight with macklin then if he comes threw that one go for martinez again
i would say that was one of martinez's toughest fights, and considering he's only had two fights above british level, i would expect to see him take a portion of the middleweight title at some point.
