If you dont like it then dont fight them. This is probably the stupidest argument ever.

Anyone who makes weight is fair game true.. but the guys that drain themselves to do this only want one thing to have a huge size advantage over their opponents...

    Example

-Segura...the same as margo using sheer power to over come opponents and relentless pressure. not much skills though... but a will to win.
-Margarito... He has had so many bad camps because in reality he is a MW draining himself to WW... he made a career over being the bigger man and over whelming his opponents.
-Ortiz... He was a kid draining himself to 140 when everyone would tell him to be at 147 even roach... He then moves to 147 and he looks bigger, faster, healthier, and becomes WW champ.

Some fighters can drain themselves others can't. It's only to have an advantage but if you notice some suffer, Like ortiz khan....

I like the same day weigh in better, but either way guys are going to try and get an advantage somehow. True we have fighters that can suffer down greatly to make weight and then are always the bigger man in the ring, but not many. They are exceptions to the rule and freaks. It would be nice to see them weigh in 12 hours before the fight, then again 3 hours before the fight and have to be within 7 pounds of the contracted weight, but that's a fricking pipe dream. The truth is the way its setup gives both sides the same advantage, some guys just can take more from it. But I haven't seen hydrating 18 pounds overnight to be a good thing for most, probably severely will shorten their career and puts them in danger in the ring.

  5. Yeah I've never been a fan of 24 hour weigh ins because of this. Almost every fighter ranked in each division walks around 2 divisions above. They only cut weight to have a size advantage, but then end up fighting someone who did the same thing ... so it ends up being one dehydrated middleweight vs. another dehydrated middleweight for the welterweight title... and they could have just fought at their healthy weight and gave a better fight for the fans.

    I propose a new system:
    1. Official weigh-ins should be 2 hours before fight time.
    2. You must weigh no more than 5% above the contracted weight limit 30 days before the fight.
    3. You must weigh-in again before your ring entrance and you must not have gained more than 2% of the contracted weight limit. (Example, you must not have gained more than 2.8 pounds for a 140 pound fight.)

These rules will keep fighters fighting in their correct weight classes.

Do you want sick fighters going in the ring, do you? same day weigh in, you make it sound like making weight is an easy thing to do.It's one of the hardest JOB in the sport. All is fair every fighter gets to re hydrate dude. It's FAIR.Do you want sluggish fighters on the day? or if you pay $$$ PPV you want healthy boxers in the ring ready to go at it. Let them make the rules. Please, not you.

His whole point is to avoid the need for fighters to drain and then rehydrate and instead fight at the weight they are comfortable in.

hows it stupid say your fighting for a lightwelter title and the guy your fight has rehydrated 20lbs so hes effectively a middleweight. There weight classes for a reason. To make things as safe a possible. As ive already mentioned gatti did it and gave someone brain damage. What do you want to watch ? a fair boxing match between two evenly size opponents or a bigger guy knocking **** out of a smaller guy, simply because hes got a size advantage. 20lbs is alot of weight even more noticeable at the lower weight classes and if you have ever boxed in your life you will know that 20lbs makes a massive difference in punching power.

well you should be unhappy with yourself for not cutting weight ahead of time properly. seriously though, they should have weigh ins at intervals ahead of the fight (45, 25 days or something) to make sure guys make weight safely and do same day wiegh ins. if your not on target, fight off, or fine or some incentive to get safely and quickly on track

There could be a valid argument for the Heavyweight division but as for the others... No!

No problem at all if they can make the weight. Not the fighter's fault he is the bigger man.
