A boxer's most INFLAMMATORY post-fight comment...

First one that came to mind for me was Alan Minter's "I'm not gunna let a black man take the title off me!" Prior to fighting Marvelous Marvin Hagler - unbeleivable really and also stoked up so much bad feeling that it attracted the nutters from the far right and d***head football fans who staged a childish riot when Hagler made him suffer for his words

 

Probably a normally dull dull dull Yaquie Lopez's post-fight anti-semetic trash talk against Mike Rossman was the worst I've ever heard. Even when the TV analyst gave him a chance to rethink how he expressed himself during a commercial break, Yaquie went on-'n-on about how he hated Jews...how they exploited his neighborhood.

.....in its day when radio was squeaky clean, after he was knocked out by joe louis tami mauriello said in the post fight interview "i just got too god damn careless." that caused a lot of condemnation. the newspapers didn't even print the word...just suggested what it was. even in the radio broadcast that is played today, the word is bleeped.

 

On the other hand had Ali said the exact same thing the writers who whorshipped him probably would have laughed and nothing would have come of it.

Holmes is remembered as a great champion by the people who follow boxing.

 

I remember back in February of `91 Mike Tyson looked into the camera cold as ice and said "March 18th Mike Tyson/Razor Ruddock, RAZOR RUDDOCK DIES..IF HE DOESNT DIE IT DOESNT COUNT..IF HE IS NOT DEAD IT DOESNT COUNT!' It was chilling at the time because it looked like he meant it.

 

True. I was so angry when I'd read that Minter said that. I changed my allegiance to Hagler for that fight because of it.
