A closer look at Andre Dirrell

I wouldn't put money on either fighter, but if I was absolutely forced to.... then Dirrell.

He has all the tools to win, he just needs to a) not showboat, and b) pace himself.

All you need to see that dirrell is a great clubfighter level fighter is to watch his fights with hanshaw and oganov. Middleweight zuniga 1st KO'd
oganov, and hanshaw never landed a single clean shot on a shot, and a comebacking shot RJJ. Froch, as limited in dazzling ability as he is, is still stronger, harder punching, and cunning(the most important thing here)
than the fresh faced dirrell. This is a 12 round fight boys and girls. How many 12 round fights has dirrell been in? Answer-0

Those who say he's going to rise to the occasion and handle froch's fight
and make the adjustments are just fanboys. Froch has the one intangible
that matters most in this fight. Championship experience!

No way does dirrell stop froch, and while froch may eat a shot here and there. He won't get teed off on like these punks on here say he will. His
defense is in his subtle movement and in his abilty to roll shots off that look flush. Which is why he never looks bludgeoned after a fight. Dirrell is the boy in this match, and carl is the man. Simple

Man how does anyone think that Dirrell is going to Fight Froch with the same lazy walk straight back while throwing jabs style he used against tomato can 1-18. He was only fighting that way because he wasn't being challanged. A prospect thing to do but he's not going to come out like that against a championship calliber fight. He'll be ampted up and as focused as ever. He believes in his speed and technical skills and I believe that he knows if he fights without free and stands his ground and throws bombs his talent will cause him to come out on top. I think he knows he doesn't have the experience to battle Froch for twelve rounds so he will come out guns blazing hoping his talent is enough to get Froch out of there early.

 

dirrel doesn't seem to have a lot of power. he hit that oganov with everything in rd 1 to no avail. if he swings wild like that against froch he will get ktfo. froch is not slow, and is very strong.

 

I'm also picking Dirrell by UD.

I see Dirrell making it a very tough night for Froch who i think will pull off the win in the end somehow, there will be points in the fight where Dirrell will outbox Froch.

Well - seems to let him self push back wards against the robes, very good footwork, good hand speed but it is evidence, simply no KO-punch. In some of the clips, were the opponent is under big pressure, Dirrell seems to stand in the wrong way throwing some odd punches.

Should expect a "mouse and cat" fight.

 

That jab and handspeed is going to give froch fits at least for the first half of the fight. If froch survives the first half then the 2nd is frochs chance to impose his strength and power.

 

Yes great analysis, considering next he fights Kessler then Abraham. God people on here are stupid, do they never look at the full picture!

Most experts are saying Froch and Taylor have the hardest draws in the tournement!

 

Look at him against Curtis Stevens...

I think that is how he will try to fight Froch..... He showed that he had plenty of lateral - and even backwards - movement in that fight...

 

The thing is Froch can't let Dirrell find his range and get into a rhythm. And I don't see Froch applying pressure from the start. It's gonna be a question of chin and stamina for Dirrell to win.

 

Dirrell has already shown that A) he isn't THAT elusive B) he can't keep up the lateral; movement for the whole fight AND win the fight convincingly (not in Nottingham anyway) c) he doesn't punch that hard (watch him throw the kitchen sink at Oganov in the first and 2nd round only to gas without budging the limited Oganov only to gas) D) Is susceptible to right hands (everyone has seen the clip of him getting dropped heavily and he does pull back in straight lines with his chin in the air, again, watch the Oganov fight)

Froch has flaws, OBVIOUS FLAWS. But he has the better chin, hits harder, and unlike Oganov has the size and timing to take advantage.

Dirrell is a good fighter, and if he can pull off a masterclass I for one will give him his dues. But as always there are people out there that flat-out refuse to note these flaws (like the Valero fans)

As a Froch fan I can tell you he is NOT going to win the Super 6. Buit the Dirrell fight is doable, for the above reasons.

 

There's an old sporting maxim that I think is appropriate here. When you're on the road, you have to play to win. Dirrell is on the road, fighting a reigning champ in his hometown. There is no way a vs Curtis Stevens type display will convince the judges here. To have a chance of winning, Dirrell is going to have to bring the fight to Froch.:deal

I see Dirrell going into the fight with the following strategy: Go hard to Froch in the opening 1-2 rounds. Try to take advantage of his speed and be aggresive. Let Froch know that he is in for a long hard night. Then in round 2-3 start pot shooting. Pot shoot and pot shoot.. avoid getting tagged at all cost and try to make Carl look clumsy as he is chasing Andre around the ring. Be very elusive and pot shoot and away ... and so on.

After the 1-2 rounds, it will take some rounds for Froch to find out what Andre is now doing and Andre may be ahead on the cards after 6-7 rounds. From there on he will just keep pot shooting while trying to make Carl look flatfooted and slow.

He will act a lot at the same time trying to give the impression that he is toying with Carl and that Carl cannot hit anything but air.

After the fight he will either get the win. Or - if he does not - many American fans will claim that he should have gotten the win and that he toyed with Froch and Carl only got the win because it took place in Nottingham.

I think the above strategy is Dirrell's best option. It is very unlikely he will benefit from dogging it out with Carl for 12 rounds. He will also not be able to be aggresive because that will allow Carl the time and space to get going. He basically cannot do much more than pot shoot for much of the fight and hope the judges buy into it.
