That is true.... but.... NOT EVERYONE has Pac at no1 & a lot of the fans that dont, have JC there instead, maybe that may annoy you a bit as you dont see in Calzaghe what others do, whether it be his style, his attitude, his career path or whatever.

Im not having a go here (I personally moved Pac to no1 after the DLH fight myself with Joe dropping to no2) but its hard not to grow a dislike for a fighter that was never your cup of tea in the 1st place when others are telling you he is better than the fighter you believe is no1 & who also is your own favourite fighter... if all that makes sense.

For the record - I dont agree with everything Calzaghe says & does, Ive just always thought he was a quality fighter ever since the Eubank fight (where I 1st seen him fight) & I believed it would have been a waste if the world as opposed to just the UK didnt recognize his ability.... a lot was Joe`s own fault for not pushing enough, it frustrated me too on numerous occassions but a lot was not his fault either.

If he retires, good luck to him, if he comes back, good luck to him, tho I know some will be happy to see him lose, fair enough, its their own choice.

No offense meant on my post below

    FIRST of ALL. Great post!

Just a curious and I have a question. Are you saying this coz you are from Scotland (in case you are from Scotland indeed) and Calzaghe is from Whales?!

I've some friends from UK that says something to this effect...in football fans from Whales would rather see the ITALIAN football team beating Manchester United than the ITALIAN football team beating Manchester United!

    cheers!

  3. a) it's WALES no "h"...
    b) i dont get it?
have you not just repeated yourself?

I mean fans from WALES would rather see Manchester United Losing to any foreign team than see Mancherster United winning over the said foreign team.

I'm not sure if it's a football mentality because football supporters can accept that their team has not been great today, or that their team is not the greatest ever. That their side perhaps lack in some departments etc... that they are shite at the moment, or were shite today... that winning division 3 does not mean they will win the Premiership, that Darren Fletcher, who say plays for your team, is not really of the quality of Stanley Mathews on the wing...

I think it's more of a childhood crush sort of mentality... sort of Starstruck... that first ever pop star/group you liked that could never ever do any wrong....

I think its an "us against the world" mentality. The more hopless the argument, the more beligerant the proponents of the argument become.

Basically what happens if they become more wrapped up in winning the argument, even if it means overlooking and twisting the logic, than coming to the correct conclusion.

    They shut down their objectivity.

I do. you don't like Calzaghe and your opinions of him are just that: opinions. so basically this thread is "hey calzaghe fans..i don't like your guy because I hate him...why don't you think what I think because what i think is a fact." thats stupid. so don't expect calzaghe fans to suddenly forget how good he is.

So would plenty of English fans. ABUism is a long running tradition in English football. The reason for it? 10% genuine dislike, 90% envy!

some are too thick to realise that lol
Calzaghe did all he could do at super middle any TRUE boxing fan knows that joe did absolutely all he could achive at that weight.
The only logical thing for him to do was move up to light heavy and fight

He went straight after the man who was number one at light heavy
Fought hopkins in his first fight at the new weight in hopkins own backyard and beat him.
Hopkins may have tried to steal the fight with his acting and holding etc but anyone could see calzaghe won the fight.

And the calls immediately came up on this site ohhh hopkins was old and past his best and other comments of hopkins won the fight lol
The later comments are laughable by the way
I dont just think its uk fans that like joe and his incredible record in boxing, the fact he finds a way in all fights to win, that he can take a punch and get back and win, his punch output far exceeds the majority of boxers around today.
Floyd mayweather has himself said how good joe is, sugar ray leonard has repeatedly said how good joe is and even went as far as to say that joe would not have looked out of place in his era (praise indeed)
Burt sugar has repeatedly said how good joe is and his incredible ability to work the other fighter out mid fight and beat them.
These are guys who know what their talking about, they see that a man who has remained unbeaten for well over 10 years remained undefeated and still may go on and break rocky marcianos incredible record
wow and some still say he is average, it beggers belief.

And lets not forget something here JOE ISNT IN HIS PRIME!
Everyone goes on about what if bhop was in his prime, what if roy was in his prime blah blah blah
WELL WHAT IF JOE WAS IN HIS PRIME AND WHAT IF HE DIDNT HAVE THE BRITTLE HANDS?? ask yourself that
He has brittle hands and has done for some time and still beats everyone put in front of him.
    He is remarkable

There were some Calzaghe fans on here who wanted a Dawson fight before Hopkins fight even, as they saw Hopkins as old, twice beaten, and past his best. Dawson is a young live opponent. To say he would destroy Dawson is silly, there are plenty of lesser fighters, then Dawson, that Calzaghe has struggled with.

Calzaghe went into the fight with Hopkins a red hot favourite, against a 43 year old fighter recently beaten twice, and came out of it scrapping a much disputed SD.

To be honest though I have no idea why Calzaghe gets peoples backs up... from his Official website...

red hot favourite I dont know where you got that from, he may have ben a fav with bookies but the general feeling wa it was 50/50 due to the fact joe was taking on the ring champion in his first fight at 175

He was a red hot favourite to beat old man Hopkins that is fact (it was suposed to be a near formality), and something that would have never been had Calzaghe faced a prime Hopkins.
