I think I read somewhere that Tunney hit pretty hard according to Dempsey. More likely the Orchid man had a pretty good beard.
Dempsey had excellent movement skills and power. He's easy on the eyes to impress, even if his competition wasn't To quote Tzu, " The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. " This applies to Dempsey. Dempsey lacked long term stamina. But in the beginning of a fight, he was something.
Dempsey was a great fighter who was very well versed all around. Very underrated in my book. Just wish Kearns woulda kept him busy
After 2 years out of the ring Dempsey finished strongly enough to beat Gibbons over 15 rounds. He kod Brennan in the 12 th round of a 15 rounder. In which fights whilst he was in his prime did he show a lack of stamina ?
Frist, off he had a lot of trouble with Brennan, and hardly looked good. Gibbons was in there to run and didn't get paid! Dempsey simply chased him a bit, failing to cut off the ring and corner Gibbons. "Dempsey lacked his usual sharpness and power while Gibbons, who managed to cut Dempsey’s eye in round two, slapped on repeated clinches and generally tried to neutralize the champion. After 15 nondescript rounds, referee Jim Dougherty – who was handpicked by Kearns – raised Dempsey’s hand with no argument from Gibbons. Because Kearns had dibs on the first $300,000 of income – and because only $72,000 of the third installment was paid to Team Dempsey – Gibbons ended up fighting for free. " How many of Dempsey's fights were over 12 rounds? Very few, and the reason is Kearns new Dempsey wasn't a good 15 round fighter. Even his fight vs an older and inactive Willard was only 12 rounds. Hmmm. Dempsey at age 31 and 32 lacked Stamina vs Tunney for sure in 10 round matches. Had they been 15, Tunney likely stops him in the second match for sure.
Only BE can weave a correlation between Jimmy Young and Jack Dempsey One of the possible ways to lure BE into a thread is to involve Jimmy Young in the thread...like leaving a bowl of honey outside your tent to lure a bear.
