Yeah. Weird seeing someone so proud of anything but gold. Still an accomplishment I guess, but to put it in your nickname? Nah.
Funny thing is that Wilder won bronze at the Olympics after beating two absolute nobodies. Yet he had a razor close fight against the second one who was a fat Moroccan. Then he got schooled by Russo in the semis, but that was enough for getting the bronze. Wilder winning an Olympic medal was a sad joke
Golovkin's nickname is trash tbh. Not a fan of the whole initial nicknames anyway. Basketball fans and the like are obsessed with them, they just sound stupid.
Still quite the accomplishment. Wilder supposedly started boxing in 2005 and by 2008 he was able to medal at the Olympics. He definitely deserves credit for it, even if the opposition was low tier. I think it's absolutely something to be proud of. And it's not like Wilder or anyone is boasting or bragging about it.
Yes he started the sport late. But still it was probably the luckiest draw in Olympic boxing history what he got. A lot of amateur heavyweights could have beaten that Algerian and Moroccan dude, even some of those that did not qualify for the Olympics.
I always thought David Tuas fight name during the final third of his career, "The Tuaminator", was a real stinker.
