A well-placed punch on the chin can leave you in la-la land for about 10 seconds. Fighters who get knocked out and look fine afterwords really are, but for about 5-10 seconds, your legs feel like they're not there, you're dizzy as **** and you lose almost all control of your motor skills. Guys who cover up and or fight back is mainly a reflex or instinct. I know this from experience. (which is why i watch boxing instead of trying to be a boxer....long story.)

Even the biggest guys will be dizzy off a shot to the chin. Good body shots sap the energy out of you. Throwing punches for 3 minutes is tiring as hell. Transfer body weight for solid punches. Don't cross your feet up. Keep your chin tucked into your chest.

Ive only boxed very briefly in my late teens but out of all the sports I have ever done it is the most fatigue wearing of them all by a very long way. Very quickly your whole body is absolutely drained to the point of sheer exhaustion. I'm a very keen sportsman but there really is no other sport like Boxing that is so stamina sapping and so wearing very quickly.

I too boxed for all of about 2 months as a middle aged teen, at the same Louvalite Gym in Hyde as Ricky Hatton did. I sparred, got hit and decided it wasn't for me!!!! The hardest part for me was the gym work. Boxers are surely some of the fittest athletes on the planet, the regime is gruling beyond belief. Basic Pad Work knackered me out...probably says more about my fitness than anything lol.

Also speed kills, if you dont see it coming, and it lands flush, regardless of power.....forget about it.

Those world beating hooks you throw on the heavy bag are almost impossible to land on a good boxer....
Youd be surprised how discouraging a simple accurate jab is...
The best truism in boxing? 'The bag doesnt punch back'.

You can always be fitter. There's nothing worse than being deep in round two of an am fight, and feeling that sick feeling of lactic acid flooding your arms, and your punches loosing there zap...:dead

No, but I remember a sparring session where I got hit in the shoulderblade with a left hook. It felt like all the blood had been drained out of my right shoulder/arm.

One thing I didn't comprehend until I did a little sparring was how little time there is to think in a ring. Perhaps the biggest distinction between a guy who does boxing and a boxer is that the boxer will do so much more out of instinct, using his thinking time only to regard general strategy.

It was then I understood the concept of the "natural" fighter: the boxers who have a much greater capacity for instinctive boxing. An example of a very talented boxer who wasn't a natural fighter was Tony Tucker. Frank Bruno and Derry Matthews are other examples. They spend so much time thinking about things that to an Ali, Louis, Hagler etc. just come as easily as breathing or keeping their eyes open.

    1. Boxing is HARD....so many guys think they can just jump in a ring and compete...and theyre ****in idiots, they think that having fought in the street a couple times makes you prepared to box.
    2. Blocking punches hurts too...your arms, shoulders, neck, anywhere.
    3. Boxing has tons of intangibles...even those guys who have terrible records have some skill, theres only a little that separates decent fighters from great fights.
    4. Getting a world title is a big deal...thousands upon thousands of fighters dream of that, and getting a world title at all, even of the alphabet variety, is an immense accomplishment and those who can get them easily, like Mayweather and De la Hoya- that just shows how incredibly talented those athletes are.
    5. even giving only 95% of your effort into training could mean disaster, every training camp requires immense focus and effort. likewise, only being 95% of the fighter you were b/c of age and/or wear and tear could have the same effect.
    6. fighters are the toughest people on earth and participate in the hardest sport. thats why these guyson the contender shouldnt be ragged on, those are good fighters, and better than 99.9% of the fighters on earth.

also, after knowing how it feels to be knocked out....thats quite an eerie feeling, coming back from a knockdown is a great feat...it only takes ten seconds of being rocked for a fight to end

In my humble opinion it's bull****. Reason one is I never felt any effect whatsoever, but then again I never fought twelve rounds. The other reason is that your opponent will be wearing down your face in the meantime, it's not a good trade off.

one thing i know is there are millions of guys that can throw a punch and look pretty on the bag, but 1 in a million have the heart and determination to get in the ring, go to war, not quit and push till they feel like they cannot even stand up they are so tired, how many people say "yeah im going to fight, not sure when" "or " i could have been good but had work and stuff etc.." this basically means, "i dont have the balls" and " i didnt have what it took"

Most boxers are just lazy and unfocused up to a certain standard.

It is why they are a bit rubbish.
