I'd have to agree with this. For me it's as simple as watching the Marquez fight, where he had a more than adequate opportunity to stop a clearly outclassed opponent late in the fight but chose not to. I'd imagine he'd be a lot more tentative against Pacquiao anyways for that chance to even present itself again, added to that I'd guess that a welterweight Pacquiao can sustain punishment better than a welterweight Marquez.

The fight was as good as ready until Mayweather and family started mouthing off about PEDs. All the problems with the fight are as a direct result of that – that’s the whole story. Mayweather doesn’t want the fight.

Do you think that, if Pac was offered the fight as a straight 50-50 with no extras, he’d refuse? Well, we know Mayweather actually did refuse it.

As for beating Manny comfortably - how? With 30 punches a round? He takes three to four rounds to adjust to opponents now. Against a fast-paced, rounded and adaptable fighter like Manny that’s going to be fatal.

You’ll likely say “If Marquez can give Manny hell… blah, blah, blah”. Floyd is not Marquez. Marquez was willing to stand and trade with Pac, the step forward behind the jab even as shots were coming at him. That’s not Floyd’s nature. He can slip and slide wild, winging shots – but from a pin-point beast like Manny? Nope.

That’s going to be a very tough fight for both men – it would genuinely prove Floyd’s claims that he belongs in the elite of the sport. Shame he doesn’t want it and there’s a simple reason why. He knows he might lose so there’s no way he’ll ever take the fight.

Mayweather could have stopped Marquez any time after the third. JMM was just too small, was getting shaken up by everything Floyd landed and couldn’t do anything in return. It says volumes that Floyd was prepared to coast to a UD.

What Manny will struggle with is Floyd’s jab. Cotto and Clottey both halted his momentum several times using it. Floyd might use it to create the space to land the right hand. But Manny and Freddie have probably already broken that down.

It’s what I love about Roach – he looks for tendencies instead of weaknesses: where does a fighter put his head when he jabs, how do they position themselves when hooking, etc.?

And then he builds a game plan based on those things and his fighter’s strengths.

Yep, it's certainly not as black and white as some make it out to. Just because Mayweather's a counter-puncher does not equate to Pacquiao being unable to touch him.

Without doubt Mayweather encounters difficulty when he faces southpaws, he does have the tendency to really square up against them, and as we saw in the Corley fight, if they trade with him he can be caught with greater frequency.

Added to that how adept Manny is at feinting, and how expert his footwork is, it'd a a razor-thin fight if it came to fruition IMO.

I've been through it too many times.

Floyds defence is overrated is the main point. Also, his economic workrate Vs Mannys=Vegas go for manny on cards

For a Pac-Floyd thread, that was good.

    Also, levels.

Floyd is not a true Elite-level fighter ImO. Smoke and mirrors for the best part.

I actually think he knew he could have took Marquez out after the second but chose not to.
Not to say he was just playing, around but I've always said if he'd have KO'd Marquez the main talk would have been on the size/weight discrepancy however making it last the way he did turned the talk to his 'amazing' skills. Very calculated by Floyd IMO :good

Yeah it was..... on the general you'd have 30 pages of guff.

    ''41 have tried.....''

''Floyd doesn't have to fight the best because he'd beat them anyway....''

    ''Take the test.....''

    ''Stop fighting shot fighters.....''

We actually saw some Floyd fans speaking objectively

    :good
