That's how it has always been handled as far as I remember. You chase the champ, gather a solid fanbase, fight and rank up and then beat the man and become the man.

But..... GGGs history has always been...... record run of defenses and all the MW Titles, IMMEDIATELY followed by his debut at SMW.

I'd like to see him extend that MW run while getting a couple of the nexgen(Mallow/Mello, Sulecki, Andrade, DChenko) and a hold over or two (Lee, Quillin, Korobov, Lara) 2 from each would seal his legacy and elevate his status among the p4p GOATS.
However, he has better possible financial incentives and legacy fights against the best at 168, especially if this tournament produces a dominant Champion.
GGG could possibly garner just 2/3 wins at 168 and challenge Wards legacy, which would reopen the case for that fight, even if at a CW.
Hard to call that a duck.

But....the haters are gonna call it a duck if he retires undefeated at 44 rather than facing the 2020 Gold Medalist

I am really excited for Charlos middleweight run but.... that just it, its in the future, as in, hasnt happened yet.

How can you duck a fighter that has absolutely no claim whatsoever within your weightclass?

Also, its not a duck when you are fighting better fighters. G fighting Canelo and BJS, but ducking Charlo? gtfoutta here

Charlo has already fought the best middle weight in the world, yes, Charlo beat a cripple! If beating an unknown cripple makes you no. 1, then why doesn't all fighters fight cripples?! YES, CHARLO BEAT A CRIPPLE! NOW HE IS HALL OF FAME! OR IS IS HALL OF SHAME?

The fight will happen if Charlo continues to win at 160. He’s only won 1 fight at middleweight and really hasn’t established himself at 160, yet. If GGG fought Charlo tomorrow and beat him, no one would give him any credit and the money wouldn’t be what he’s used to at this stage of his career. Charlo needs to stay active, line up some real contenders at 160, dominate and look spectacular. In 2 or 3 fights his stock will be at a level that would warrant a fight with GGG or Canelo. Right now it’s just too soon for Charlo in my opinion.

Jacobs would beat Charlo....it’s a bit too soon for Charlo. He’s really only had one questionable fight agaisnt a middleweight...I think he needs to fight a Lemieux or a Rosado....someone who he can cut his gums against at 160, not get his gumshield knocked down his throat.

Yes, I agree, Jacobs would beat Charlo, Golovkin would beat Charlo, Saunders would beat Charlo..............beating a cripple just does not make me respect Charlo, he must fight someone who can fight back............

Fair. I'd look at a Murata or Dev then Jacobs or BJS if I were him.

Imo Canelo is gunna beat GGG so from there I’m not sure if GGG keeps his WBC title or it becomes Vacate coz Canelo doesn’t want that work from Jermall.

If he loses and keeps the belt then GGG has no choice but to fight Jermall. If he wins then he has 3 mandatories and I think Derevyanchenko is the first one.

You act like GGG had a choice there. Nobody wanted to fight GGG. Nobody. Everyone was rejecting offers.

I told everyone that GGG and his team were full of ****, just like damn near all these boxers. The only guys who have shown they are really serious about leaving behind a legacy are Crawford, Spence, Usyk, Gassiev and the rest of cruiserweight contestants in the WBSS.
