I actually saw that highlight a few days ago. Good stuff. As for Hagler/Benitez, obviously Hagler would win, though it really depends on what style he takes. If he opts to box, it could be interesting, though he'd likely maul him if he went into attack mode from the start. Do you rate the Leonard/Benitez staredown above the Hearns/Benitez one? Either way Benitez was a master of staredowns.
Benitez would have just been way too small for Hagler. Will's limit was 154. He wasnt suited to be at 160 at all. Hagler would have walked through him, and stopped him.
Possibly, but we all saw how the Hagler/Duran fight went down, when Duran really had no business making a fight of it. Though it's possible Benitez just wasn't at all suited to fighting at MW.
Hagler respected Duran, and some say even was slighly intimidated by Duran(though idk if I buy that). He'd have no respect for Benitez though.
Easily. I have never seen a better staredown than the one that took place before the Leonard/Benitez fight. Here it is. 4 mins in. [YT]MvSmZepzK1I[/YT] I don't think the staredown with Hearns is even close in comparison, but I agree with you, Benitez knew how to staredown.
That's the likely scenario, and I never said Benitez has a legit chance, I just stated that if Hagler were to box as he did with Duran, it could be interesting given the way that one went, provided that Benitez was able to fight somewhat effectively at MW. I doubt that's the case though and Hagler likely would run right through him within a few rounds.
That's how I feel, but there is a ever so slight possibility that Hagler wanted to beat Benitez at his own game. In the end though, Benitez would have been dwarfed by Hagler, and would have been stopped within 10 rounds, I believe. Great fighter though.
Benitez defence was amazing it looks so effortless and to have mastered it like he did at such a young age was amazing. He fought off the ropes better then anyone I've seen, a shame that by like 23 his prime was over.
hes one of my fav fighters also..anyway sweet pea was much busier with his southpaw jab..never had much of a left though...el radar was the consumate counterpuncher he was not very busy with his jab..off the ropes he was amazing...he pulled sum of it off against the hit man..that ish was impressive..
Yes , At the time they would confuse him and Wilfredo Gomez, Jr. Featherweight Champion. But it is just Wifred.
