Lets just hope they meet again in this tournament. Everyone lost last night, AA fans didn't get to see if he could get a late a stoppage (and he was coming on strong at the time), and Dirrell fans didn't get to see a legitimate victory at the end of 12.
Yes. The rules should not change, which is why it's a pertinent question. Do you think if Dirrell took the shot and stayed up, Abraham would have been disqualified?
If Dirrell wasn't really hurt or the punch barely grazed him and he wanted to continue then the ref probally would have taken a point from Abraham and the fight would have gone on. That of course didn't happen.
Just watched the fight. Obviously it's disappointing that it had to end like it did, but seriously, how can anyone say it was a bad DQ, or that AA got screwed? He hit his opponent while they were down. End of story. And I don't get all the 'AD was running like a *****' comments - so now sticking and moving is a ***** move? So Ali was a *****? Seriously, these guys put their lives on the line every time they step in the ring. Calling them cowards, pussies, bitches, etc. is just flat out disrespectful! And all this crap about AD being essentially there for the taking? Please, he was hurt in the 10th, but he was spanking AA in the 11th before the slip. Sure AA may have got to him if the fight continued, but I'd be very surprised if he did, AD seemed to be in full control. It's the first time I'd seen extended footage of either of these guys (only seen highlights of each previously). AD impressed me with his combinations and movement; AA just needs to be far more active. Anyway, shame about the type of result, but c'mon, to say it could have ended any other way is just ridiculous.
To anyone claining to think that Dirrell was `faking` it. I was involved with a fighter who got dropped and suffered a subdural hematoma(bleed). The way Dirrell was responding after getting up, was eerily similar to what I saw in the fighter I was working with. AA is one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport. To watch him load up and drill Dirrell (hands down, clearly on the deck) bad news. The way Dirrell hit the deck, legs twtching, clearly incoherent, faking it????? Also AA could get a lesson in class by his tasteless post fight comments. He was getting a boxing lesson, way behind, so he did what he thought he had to do... If he is all that, tell him to take a page from RJJ (Montell Griffin) and come back and starch Dirrell in one rd as well...
You come across as a bickering AA nuthugger (although your other thread is more sensible). He lost; accept it.
I have to give Dirrell much respect for his great performance. Abraham never found a way to deal with him in the early and mid rounds. I gave Arthur only one, maybe two rounds. But I have to say that the ref was very bad. Where was the referee, when Dirrell sliped in the corner? He was at the other side of the ring and couldn´t interfere. Before of that he made some strange decisions, too. I don´t know if Dirrell faked the KO or if he was seriously hurt, but it´s Abraham own fault hitting a guy that kneels on the canvas. So the DQ itself is ok. If Dirrell had gotten up, the fight would have continued, but I don´t want assume something to him. Dirrell put on a strong performance and would have won a clear UD, or maybe Abraham would have knocked him out in round 12, if the fight had gone on. We´ll never know, but I´m sad that we didn´t see the last round, which would have been dramatically, I think. So the end of the fight has a negative connotation, but Dirrell won and it´s ok with the rules I think. I hope AA comes back from this strong and knocks Froch out in Nottingham next round. Dirrell-Ward should be a great fight, too, with Dirrell gained some confidence. So lets look forward to the upcoming fights. Short note at the end: Team Sauerland wants to raise a protest, because Dirrell missed the doping check after the fight. Arhur Abraham: "I didn´t see that he was down on his knees. I wish him all the best from my heart."
