Good fighter with balls and heart? Definately. Elite? Nope.

This is how I usually rank the fighters. I'll include some examples.

    Elite- Floyd, JMM, Pac
World Class- Ward, Martinez, Donaire, Cotto
Legit Talent- Mares, Froch, Gamboa, Mathysse, Guerrero, Garcia, etc
Champ/Contender- Broner, Canelo, Santa Cruz, Rios, Rigo, Trout, etc
Gatekeeper- Smith, Rubio, Molina, Prescott, etc
Average- Eloy Perez, Anthony Peterson, John Murray, etc
WTF- If your record has more losses than wins, or if they are pretty evened out.

You have to remember that alot of these guys are on the verge of jumping a level with 1 or 2 wins. Since this thread is about Froch, let's use him as an example. I believe he is a victory or two away, depending on the opponent, from the World Class Level. If he were to beat Ward, he would automatically jump to World Class, or he could beat both Kessler, and Pavlik and jump to World Class.

The Elite imo, is reserved for those who have shown superiority in their weight classes, and also succeeded in other weight classes against good opposition. It is a hard category to fit in, but there are multiple candidates in the World Class Level that could eventually end up there.

As others have pointed out, it depends how you define elite. Elite athletes in other sports are easier to pick, the Federers, Woods' and Bolts of the world, but they all compete in the same 'division' so to speak. By those standards I'd have to say Froch is not elite (and I'm a huge fan of his), he's more like a Lee Westwood or Andy Murray, capable of beating the very best in his sport but would lose more often than not head to head.

Actually Murray has beaten Federer more often than he has lost to him.

I define Elite as being a level above everyone in your division, elite fighters dominate their divisions easily then go on to fight in other divisions, sometimes there can be 2 or 3 elite fighters in one division as they are levels above everyone else and only get close fights when they fight each other and other elite fighters from other divisions. I would consider Wladimir Klitschko an elite fighter also despite the fact he can't fight in multiple divisions as most heavyweights don't especially super heavyweights. Right now i would class Wlad as elite, Vitali as world class, Povetkin as world class, Haye as world class (former champ) and although Pulev is not a champ i would put him into the world class margin also. Wlad is elite because he is clearly levels above anyone in the division, a few years ago i would probably class both Wlad and Vitali as elite but only Wlad now.

Froch is certainly world class and so is kessler and Abraham but only Ward is elite at SMW.

Possibly the silliest thing I've read on this forum in the last year at least, unless you mean Manny is no longer elite, which most here would probably agree with.
