Anyway, Ishida wasn't and still isn't a big puncher. Alvarez bullied him around the ring late in their encounter...and Alvarez is no monster himself (if you've never seen Rigo, imagine a really low-rent hybrid of his brother Saul and Jesus Soto Karass...himself a low-rent Margarito)

What he does have is sharpness and precision which together with his height and reach are pretty much a poison cocktail for Kirkland. :good

 

Don't bloody believe it...Ishida could now end up fighting Martinez atsch

you guys are too hard on Maidana, everyone knows he is and never going to be pacweather, he trains hard and comes to fight, the reason he gassed was because he threw over a hundred punches per round in the first 4 rounds.

like uncle rico said in the general, cagey veterans such as corley and morales gives inexperienced swarmers problem.

Maidana has no excuse to be such an ineffective swarmer after 7 years, 32 fights, and 126 rounds...with now seven consecutive appearances against current or former world champions (four of the seven) and top contenders.

You can't blame experience, or the gloves, or the corner.

Maidana just isn't all that good. He imposes his considerable strength on those against whom he can get away with it and that is IT. That's all his upside.

Luckily for him there's probably only man currently at 140 that he'd have little to no success against, and that's Bradley.

Although I also have to say that the performance looks awful because f how shopworn Morales was perceived as being going in...Maidana always fights like this. As you say, if you're resilient/skilled enough you can come through it.

Amazingly Morales still was both! No robbery though, 115-113 either way is fair IMO. I'd favour Maidana to have more success with Judah and Alexander than he did with Morales.

I also think that Morales would fare far worse against those two than he did with Maidana.

I also think it shows Khan has made very little advancements on his defence...well he's made leaps for himself, but not in the grand scheme of things.

 

Maidana: he's one of my fave fighters but he was dissapointing , i was getting annoyed with him he werent thinking or picking the right shots like he did against khan. , it was like maidana thought he could take out morales easy once he caught him.

Morales: what a fighter and show's he can still hang near the top level because of experience , skill and heart.

Guerrero: best performance from him ive seen , he looked good , dominated the whole fight and as knocked the fear level of katsidis down , Guerrero is set for the big fights.

Katsidis: i cant see him becoming a world champ maybe if a weak link comes along with a strap but other then that then no , Kats will still get the big fights because what he brings to the ring but i'll be suprised if his career takes a more positive spin.

Paulie: still need to check the fight

Kirkland: ref was right to stop the fight , kirkland's legs were long gone , kirkland can go on from here and bring the excitement but because of his chin and defense he's going to get found out afew more times.

Morales proved a lot of people wrong about what he had left, and Maidana being very limited skillwise does not detract from El Terrible's accomplishment of not only surviving but excelling against a much bigger, stronger and dangerous foe. I had it a draw myself; as you say about a two point swing in either direction was acceptable.

I'd agree that Judah (who has now begun to compound his career-long front-running with fighting in very infrequent and brief spurts, even early) and Alexander (who's just mentally fragile IMO and would not deal well at all with Maidana's sheer force and insistent pressure) would look worse than Morales did...but could both probably outbox Erik himself at this stage.

...and yes, Khan really ought to have dominated Maidana bell to bell given how improved he's supposed to be. It was a wonderful battle and all, but worrying...

Bradley is a cut above them all. :deal

 

Also - why is everyone pointedly giving their thoughts on six of the eight participants in the four PPV match-ups????

Jose for his part actually did better than expected. He was ultimately too small, too old, and too lacking in multi-dimensionality to get the W, but we more or less knew all that going in. He did buzz Malignaggi a bit early, and there were many who even picked him to be stopped by Malignaggi! atsch So a brief bit of acknowledgement for him wouldn't kill anybody, now would it?
