So I see the official line is that he’s off due to being ‘unwell’ and will return next year. Obviously unwell can be anything from COVID to a serious addiction so we’re still none the wiser.

 

Sounds right to me - people see salaries like Gary Lineker's and assume media is all like that; it really isn't, outside of top 'talent'. I'd be surprised if Smith wasn't on a staff contract with some on-air appearance bonuses.

Boxing is a murky world though so who knows what sorts of characters he's become exposed to over the years.

It’s absolute madness to say that gambling, fruit machines etc should be made illegal because a minority are unable to control their impulses. There are plenty who enjoy these things without having them having a very negative impact on their lives.

If we’re going down that road we’ll be banning alcohol, junk food, video games, hell driving ruins many lives!

Online betting accounts already come equipped with a host of nannying functions and limits that require application for removal, which makes their use more of a pain in the ass for methodical gamblers who aren't betting for adrenaline or because they were tempted by promotional emails.
