Beterbiev would have beat down the old Stevenson. The Stevenson that beat Dawson, Cloud and Bellew, wrecks Beterbiev and Gvodzyk.
You just dont like Beterbiev. Stevenson feasted on cabbies and has zero boxing pedigree. Beterbiev on the other hand was a decorated amateur, beat Kovalev TWICE, beat Gvozdyk and took it to Usyk as an amateur too. There's very little to suggest that Adonis could have beaten Beterbiev save a hail Mary punch.
No I think you need a fighter like Gvozdyk with a better strategy to win against Beterbiev. Stevenson would be in trouble.
Stevenson at any point gets planked. There's a reason he faced weak fighters for years after snatching the belt from a damaged Dawson. One punch which is all Stevenson really has wouldn't deter Beterbiev. Actually think this ends earlyish. Stevenson who never had the best chin would get broken down and stopped inside the first half of the fight.
Stevenson being a southpaw and not having the greatest defense would be open to Beterbievs big right hand. And he wont be able to take it.
That would depend on when they fought. Beterbiev beats down the older version of Stevenson no problem. Beterbiev seems a bit hittable. I could see a younger Stevenson testing Beterbiev's chin something serious.
Stevenson at his best? 50/50 match-up in my opinion. In terms of common opposition, Beterbiev has done better... however, styles make fights. I think either of them could land early. We've also seen that Beterbiev is capable of raising his level when needed against serious opposition. I think he would've prepared well for that contest. Stevenson's straight left is very, very potent, but we know that he's also been stopped early before (by Darnell Boone). I think there's a very good chance that Beterbiev connects something solid on him before the middle rounds. On the other hand, Beterbiev ate several flush left hands from southpaw Alexander Johnson (whom he did stop), but Stevenson's left is a different level of punch in terms of power. It would've been an interesting fight, but something tells me we'd have seen a stoppage inside 6. I'd favor a fully focused Beterbiev to eventually tag and finish him. I'm not quite convinced that a great straight left hand would be enough.
Beterbiev would keep his hands up out of respect for his power and whack him to the gut with a savage right hand and then immediately get in close and work him over on the inside and take him out in round one or two.
That's what I think, Beterbiev is getting a little more accolades than he should, Adonis had the power to put him down
