The WBC and the WWE: on the same level of credibility...
At least, that would be a good fight. Better than Diaconu-Branco. Diaconu should have faced Johnson right away. Instead, Pascal, who is not ranked in that division, gets a chance. Unbelievable.

Yeah but it's not exactly like Glen is pushing for the fight.
It's still a good fight, like you said better than getting Branco.

He's a decent boxer. I can see why Froch is using him in sparring, he has a lot of respect for him. It would make Froch look good if Pascal was to win a light heavyweight title.

Pascal said his personnal scale was off. It took him only 30 minutes to lose the extra 6 ounces. Jean is not even a big SMW. Less bigger than Bute, Kessler and Andrade. I doubt very much he has weight problems. If it's the case, the problem is more how Gym manages his weight. They let him develop too much muscles, which is not so good for a boxer. This bout against Diaconu is an opportunity he wants to grab, not a weight issue.

Signing a new contract with Interbox helped him.
And yes it's a good fight altough I'd prefer a Glen Johnson fight more.

Beyond, way beyond, weight considerations, this fight has two main explanations : money, and then money. This is the only way both guys can make a couple of hundred thousand dollars (ballparking it, but it should be accurate - maybe there are 500 K to split), while remaining in a situation where the fight can be perceived as a 50-50ish kind of affair.

Plus, if Diaconu wins, maybe he becomes big enough to headline on his own in Montreal (and make the paydays which come with it). And if Pascal wins, becoming a Bute-level attraction is practically a given.

After that performance? He might get shots, but I don't see much money in them.
