If you watch these couple of videos....

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr3dEWtwtzg[/ame]

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVStmLCoH30[/ame]

The first is pretty biased in favour of JMM (as you can tell by the title) - it shows him using pretty economical movement in order to stay in range - there's lots of the little retreat with the left that causes Pacquiao to reach in.... but immediately there's a left hook or a short right counter..... and often pushing Manny back.

The second is more Pacquiao favoured (though more even) and shows Marquez retaining his punching form when Pacquiao is throwing lots of leather.... all within his own punching range.

Mayweather controls the range as good as anyone, barring possibly Hopkins.... but his left hook for me is too easy to read, it's always delivered on an upward motion from short range, just asking to have a right hand thrown over it. Marquez's left hook is better, albeit slightly slower he throws it from varying angles and distances, meaning he's got the option of throwing the full range of punches.

All I'm saying is that Mayweather's offensive ability isn't proven against fighters as good as Pacquiao - he's very safety first and reluctant to let the full repertiore go.... which you'll need to win.

It's not as if Pacquiao is limited and can be pinned down using the 1-2 exclusively.

You make some good points here. Marquez does some things better than Mayweather. I think he lets go of some beautiful combinations. I think Marquez has better uppercuts and uses them very well when he is throwing those counter combinations. Floyd rarely does that at 147.

But Floyd as the counter puncher also will have some things that he does better than a Marquez can do against Pac. The reach and jab will be his advantages. I think Floyd also has better reflexes and he will slip and counter whereas Marquez had to eat a few of them. The difference in size means that Pacquiao will have to lunge in a little more, and when he does, Floyd can back pedal slightly so he will have Pac right where he wants him.

But it seems Floyd isn't as confident as his fans about this fight

It's completely different because of motivation. When Pacquiao wanted to he had Shane running for his life in there. He just didn't seem particularly arsed in maintaining it, and we know he can.

Mayweather would have to actually fight back to win the fight, that changes the dynamic of the fight completely.

It's definitely a fight that Mayweather can win.... when it was first mooted I pretty much wrote Pacquiao off to be honest.

But given Floyd's apparent unwillingness to get in there (for over a year now....) I've been well and truly swayed.

You are correct in saying that Floyd's defence is superior meaning he won't have to eat as many shots.... it's Marquez's composure under fire that allows him to get his punches away. Mayweather tends not to throw back if the opponent is really unloading, he's content to cover up and force the opponent to reset, then he might lead off for a change.

Both present their fair share of problems for Pacquiao, it's got to be said. If I was a Mayweather fan.... assuming I'd not disowned him by now I'd be screaming at him to take this fight. Even if he loses he'll gain far more respect from the boxing world than he currently has.

It's not really a Hagler/Leonard scenario, which had FAIL written all over it for Marvin... he couldn't resist the lure of the $$$ and also the chance to beat his nemesis. It's two of the best fighters of this era that happen to be the same weight.... I'm not convinced Floyd fights again but if he does he's simply got to face Manny.

Pacquiao can fight Marquez again, the young WW's coming through, the winner of the 140lb ''tourney'' or even chase a bit of history and take Martinez (unlikely).

The problem for Pacquiao will be the hard counters.

People think he can walk through them. He can't. The straight right hand is all Floyd really needs to neutralise Pacquaio in terms of punches. The upper body movement, mayweather defense and reflexes will all take care of Pacquiaos offense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pacquaio on the outside with very little idea of what to do to get in close to Mayweather without taking a hard shot.

What about the hatton fight ? Mayweathers favourite quote " I take them into deep water and then drown them " Mayweathers lets people use up energy and when they start to fade he comes on strong.

Pac has an immensely solid chin, I think he will be willing and able to take a counter to get inside.

Pac has no need to fight inside though, he has the variation and footwork to fight from any distance.

An accumulation of accurate shots from PBF will be more than enough to keep Pac at bay. Floyd is too fast and too good and too smart to be beaten by pac.

Mosley had no intention of fighting vs Pac and even against Floyd he quit.

The difference between Pac vs JMM and PBF is JMM isn't scared to take the risk of getting hit to land a solid counter. Floyd is risk adverse. However this could mean he wins a decision.

Pac looked majorly suspect again. I think he could have looked brilliant but he chose not to and people could account that to him facing a boxer and not a brawler.

Floyd punches correctly and that right hand is a hurtful weapon. He has the speed and timing to land it. But he struggles with southpaws because the shoulder roll isn't as effective against them. Then you've got to consider that Manny gives angles - a nightmare for a pot-shooting fighter. Even if Manny misses, he'll be somewhere.else before the right or the hook land.

Again, that doesn't mean Floyd can't take it. But he's not a big puncher.he'd need to land three or four shots to manage what jmm did. And he just doesn't do that till late in fights.

He'll look to frustrate the pac-monster for five rounds and hope he's chipped enough out of him for a majority decision.

Seems Floyd's fans think he's a lot better than he does himself. If he had half the confidence you lot did 50 mill would be a no brainer...

Was a bad performence by Pac but I put alot of that down to Mosley. After the 3rd round all he wanted to do was survive.
