I think tonight showed that for Price or Fury to have a chance against Wlad they are going to have to take his power from the very start. He was throwing heavy shots from early in the fight and throughout the whole fight. Against the more tentative Wlad of a few years ago there was an idea that you could steam in early and get to him while he was still softening guys up. I think we've now seen the blueprint for how Wlad will go at Fury/Price and it is apparent that they're going to require a solid chin, defence, boxing ability and power to end Wlad's reign. Fury has shown a vulnerable chin in the past so it seems clear Wlad will get him out of there early. With Price we don't know yet
It's not impossible to avoid that right and get inside, because that's ALL that WLad throws. No combinations, no body shots, no hooks, no uppercuts. A properly trained fighter should be able to walk right in and land a bomb uppercut. Even Wach could have done this, esp because of his good chin. He should have put up his guard, pushed Wlad into the ropes, and then launched the UC. Haye couldn't do this because he lacked both the weight & the heart, but any big fighter should be able to. I have no idea why none have tried. Maybe they just get psyched out? Overwhelmed by the "K2" mojo? It's just a very, very lousy division right now.
Well, I'm not saying that. Anybody with enough going for them can cause a big upset. My point was just that pure aggression likely won't be enough if Wlad fights aggressively like he did here, and against Thompson last time out. A fighter with no defence or chin will not last very long. Wach showed an elite level chin tonight, even Peter didn't show that level of punch resistance. Nor did Brewster. I actually can't remember the last time I saw a heavyweight demonstrate the level of steel chin Wach did
Wlad uses the left hook quite a lot, you got to admit that. Even with the limited arsenal what makes any kind of strategy hard to execute against Wlad are his handspeed, which is superb for such a quite guy and his ability to control range. You walk in and Wlad either moves away or comes in and clinches. Then there is the powerful jab. Wlad is limited, but he is brilliant at what he does.
Maybe, but it's also harder to get that many punches off when the guy in front you can hit back. Wach can't punch, period. Plus Wladimir himself is bothered by big punches. You have to be able to land on Wlad, that is an absolute must. So all of these short stocky Sam Peters of the world and the big ogres can take all the punches that Wlad can dish out, but they won't win a single match against the so called glass chinned Klitschko because they can't box for ****.
