Like it or not, that fight would sell, massively. And could quite easily outsell fury vs usyk. I was happy to see usyk own AJ again. But in all honesty, there's still plenty of big fights for Joshua is allows Hearn to take the stabilisers off
I don’t even know who Frank Smith is, but he’s right. Usyk doesn’t bring a lot to the table but the belts — his country is at war, not going to be buying PPVs there. Fury has a base in the UK that will pay to see it but not as large a one as AJ (even after defeat). And Usyk is a complete unknown in the U.S., as in no one knows his name much less would recognize him on the street. Fury has a bit of recognition but not through the roof — more like ‘oh yeah, that guy, I think I remember him.’ AJ of course is an established UK attraction — for live venues (ticket sales), PPVs and terrestrial TV. Wilder is well known in the U.S. and his rep as a puncher would also help further sell the fight in the UK. And the U.S. is where the money is at — smaller arena fights in America produce larger gates than full stadiums in the UK (higher ticket prices) and PPV revenue is way higher (larger potential audience and they charge far more). AJ is not well known in the U.S. but could easily be marketed if he was facing Wilder … especially if there’s a belt of some sort on the line (if Fury gets stripped and Wilder picks up a belt or if Wilder vs. AJ is for a vacant belt). I don’t think there’s any question whatsoever that it’s the bigger fight moneywise.
come on, at this stage I can't believe Fury is only "oh yeah, I think I remember him" but Wilder is "well known" if Wilder is well known Fury must be too. Wilder's last two fights were being spectacularly splattered by Fury, who out-talks him, upstages him, out-fights him. in America
He’s right. Fury vs Whyte who has a bigger profile in the UK than Usyk did 700k PPV buys the Fury vs Usyk fight does less than that. Given both Usyk vs AJ fights are likely also around the 700k mark on a bigger platform and with the biggest driver of PPVs in the UK in AJ. An AJ vs wilder fight does over a million PPV buys easily. my guess is they try to make the Wilder fight but as per usual he’s not allowed to fight off Showtime by Al. So we get something like Wallin in a comeback in December. Whyte vs AJ in April providing Whyte doesn’t take the Dubois fight. Win both of those and I think we get the Fury fight in September as a couple of solid wins and it makes too much money to not do it
Frank Smith is rarely right and he certainly isn't right on this. That's something the two of you have in common. Fury vs Whyte did very well considering Dillian went missing from the second the fight was announced, did nothing, said nothing and did not show up until the day before the weight in. Even then he basically told Fury how great he was, gave him a hug and proceeded to get routinely knocked out (again!) 24 hours later. People outside of this forum were also largely but not entirely aware how useless Dillian is and always has been so there is also that... AJ vs Wilder is totally irrelevant anyway as there is zero chance of it ever happening, so no, it's not bigger as it simply won't happen so you are comparing one fight which we all know won't happen (AJ vs Wilder) against one fight which has a very good chance of happening (Usyk vs Fury). AJ vs Fury also looks further away than ever before, at this point it's not even a discussion...
