Why risk injury or a potential loss before the biggest fight of his career? I've only explained to you why a tune up would make sense, that's all. Make no mistake I want to see this fight as much as any other CU Next Tuesday. Sooner rather than later.
I want to see the fight next, and as I said, whatever edge Fury loses due to inactivity, he should make up for by having his best ever trainer working with him, and having the motivation of it being the biggest most important fight of his career. No excuses whatsoever. Even if he comes in at 90% there's no excuse for losing to a man who went 1-1 with fat boy Ruiz.
Quick reminder for anyone still harping on about the AJ (femi) resume myth. Fighters beat to become a 2-time world champion, Joshua = charles martin (0 defences), andy ruiz jr (0 defences). Fury = wladimir klitschko (24 defences), deontay wilder (10 defences). So much for the “b b b but title defences” argument
Hasn't Joshua had 6 tune up fights since he beat Klitschko? Yes, 6 by my last count, so it wouldn't be so unreasonable for Fury to have just one.
I think he'll probably beat AJ. I don't think Fury will ever be an all-time great, even if he batters Joshua. And don't get me wrong, Joshua has a strong chance of winning. Wallin didn't do badly. Neither of these guys are great, but a credit to British boxing even so. #1 and #2 heavyweight in the world.
He might be 100% of what he was, he might be 110% even. But he might be 90% because, y'know, 18 months is a long time off, ring rust is a real thing in boxing. No, he doesn't need a tune up. He'll be fine without one. 90% of Fury is better than any AJ we've ever seen. If Joshua beats Fury it's because Joshua got better, is better, and deserves real credit.
But a 90% version is better than any AJ we've ever seen, apparently. So how can Tyson lose? Make your mind up, chap.
