Andy Ruiz is considerably smaller and couldn't even wobble the shell of Liakhovich before the Joshua bout and the shell of Arreola after the Joshua bout. It didn't seem to stop him from knocking Joshua down four times and making him give up.
Joshua ate Whyte's left without hitting the deck. I doubt Usyk is going to put him down. You cannot extrapolate too much from his performance against Ruiz.
I simply stated that Usyk being "too small" is a weak argument considering Joshua's only loss is to a man considerably smaller. I don't think that is "extrapolating too much". The Whyte argument is not a good one, either, considering Whyte did not follow that up with anything apart from some body shots some time after. Usyk is far too quick, clever, skilled and fit to not be able to capitalise on such an opening.
In a boxing match, you can throw more than one punch and don't need to knock someone out with a single punch. Whyte was unable to follow it up, despite Joshua staggering around like a drunk and then stuck to the canvas like a lamp post. I can't imagine Usyk letting anyone away with that. Usyk has all of the tools to be able to finish anyone off if he is able to get them into trouble. Whyte didn't have the set of tools required to do so. He was inexperienced, unfit, not clever enough, technically inefficient, predictable, too slow and injured (although that is far from the primary reason as to why he wasn't able to capitalise). Usyk is experienced, clever, very fit, fast, unorthodox in the sense he can throw punches from unique angles and I believe that his ambitiousness is backed up by a high level of self-efficacy. In other words, he'd relish the opportunity. If you're arguing that Usyk wouldn't be able to get Joshua into such a predicament in the first place, then I would have to disagree with that. I don't think it takes a huge puncher to buzz Joshua. However, it won't be easy to do and that is partly what makes this a great match.
At the end of the day people are only buying this for the main event. Why would Hearn put other big fights on the card away from DAZN when it wouldn't affect PPV buys? If Callum Smith vs Gilberto Ramirez and Okolie Makabu were on the bill it wouldn't affect the PPV buys by a significant amount, and it would cost Hearn a shed load of money, especially considering the sum Usyk is being payed.
Main event is a decent one. No doubt. Undercard is **** though. I preferred it when they wheeled out Big Pricey for these events. Can we not shoehorn him in anywhere Eddie ? Oh and Campbell Hatton though, Good luck to the lad, but its the same as having a YouTuber fight on the undercard.
I don't really know what people were expecting. The main event sells the ppv, undercard has none to little impact. Definitely a conflict of interest with Hearn promoting joshua and any other fighter still on sky ppv, he will keep back his bigger and more competitive fights for his Dazn shows. Campbell Hatton shouldn't be anywhere near this or any other ppv.
Undercard might have impact because these boxers too does have fanbase and haters who might buy ppv. Okolie vs Prasovic for sure will not add sales, if fight was Okolie vs Makabu with 2 belts on line, then might help to sell. They might add on undercard Buatsi, looks that he too does have some fanbase.
Insignificant. There's not going to be many fans out there who will not pay for the PPV on the weight of the main event, but will do so because there are 2 belts on the line with Makabu and Okolie, as opposed to just Okolie. Same goes for Buatsi. Joshua shows do not need a strong undercard and would likely be able to operate fine without one. The undercard on a Joshua bout serves as further exposure to partner's branding and other marketing media such as adverts, which require runtime. The undercard is not there to drive PPV sales but to satisfy reasonable exposure for marketing. Of course, a stronger undercard would achieve a few more eyes on screens to optimise that avenue but not significantly enough so to warrant the initial outlay on talent.
